Access Siri

Siri is Apple Users' virtual personal assistant. Once you've enabled Siri, you can access the feature by pressing the device's home button or the center button of your headset's remote. You can even access your virtual personal assistant by simply saying "Hey Siri".

Steps

Enabling Siri

  1. Turn Siri on through "Settings".
  2. Select "General".
  3. Choose "Siri".
  4. Slide the toggle next "Siri" to the right. The toggle will turn from grey to green. You will now be able to access Siri.[1]

Home Button

  1. Press and hold down the home button.
  2. Wait for the following message to appear on the screen: "What can I help you with?".
  3. Ask Siri your question.[2]

Headset Remote

  1. Press and hold the center button on the headset's remote.
  2. Wait to hear a chime.
  3. Ask Siri your question.[2]

"Hey Siri"

  1. Enable "Hey Siri" through "Settings". You may access Siri by simply saying "Hey Siri".
    • If you have an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE or iPad Pro, you may use this feature at any time. If you have an earlier iPhone or iPad, this feature is only available when your phone is connected to a power source.
  2. Click "General".
  3. Select "Siri".
  4. Slide the toggle next to "Allow "Hey Siri"" to the right. The toggle will turn from grey to green. You will proceed to the "Set Up "Hey Siri"" page.
  5. Select "Set Up Now".
  6. Say "Hey Siri" when prompted. If your attempt was approved, a check mark will appear on the screen. Repeat this step two times. This process makes it easier for Siri to distinguish your voice from other people's voices.
  7. Say "Hey Siri, how's the weather today?" when prompted. If your attempt was approved, a check mark will appear on the screen.
  8. Say "Hey Siri, it's me" when prompted. If your attempt was approved, a check mark will appear on the screen. You will be notified that "Hey Siri" is enabled.
  9. Click "Done".
  10. Now access Siri through the "Hey Siri" feature.
  11. Plug your iPhone or iPad into a power source. If you have an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE or iPad Pro, this step is not required.
  12. Say "Hey Siri".
  13. Ask Siri your question.[2]

Apple CarPlay

  1. Plug your phone into your vehicle's Apple CarPlay enabled dashboard.[3]
    • This feature is only compatible with iPhone 5 or newer.
  2. Press and hold the your steering wheel's voice control button.
  3. Ask Siri your question.[4]

"Raise to Speak" (iPhone 4S)

  1. Enable "Raise to Speak" through the "Settings". If you have an iPhone 4S, you can use the "Raise to Speak" feature. To access Siri, all you have to do is lift the phone to your ear and ask a question.
  2. Select "General".
  3. Choose "Siri".
  4. Slide the toggle next "Raise to Speak" to the right. The toggle will turn from grey to green. You will now be able to access Siri.
  5. Now access Siri through the "Raise to Speak" feature.
  6. Press the Home button or Sleep/Wake button to turn on the screen. You do not have to unlock your phone.
  7. Rotate the phone into a vertical position. At this point the phone must be lower than your ear.
  8. Turn the phone's screen towards you.
  9. Raise the phone to your ear as you would when you answer a phone call. As you bring the phone to your ear, you will rotate the phone from vertical to almost horizontal.
  10. Ask Siri your question.[5]

Tips

  • Speak naturally. Siri's programming is created so that you can speak as you would speak to another human, and can interpret meanings even if something's not explicitly stated.
  • Siri adapts to your voice, accent, and speech patterns, so the more you use it, the more accurate the responses will be.

Warnings

  • While you can speak French (or Italian, German, etc.) to Siri, it is designed to recognize specific accents and dialects for each country listed. The accuracy rate will be higher if you're a native speaker.
