Add Homemade Ankle Straps to High Heels

Ever have heels that are slightly too big and keep slipping off or do your want to secure your dance heels? Adding ribbon to secure your shoes will make dancing or walking so much easier.

Steps

  1. Get a pair of heels without an ankle strap and two pieces of ribbon at least {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} long, not cheap, paper ribbon. Use nice silk or satin ribbon, these will work nicely. Make sure it will not split/snap if you pull on it a little bit.
  2. Make sure your ribbon matches your heels. Alternatively, get a colour that is a nice complement to your heels, such as red silk ribbon with black heels.
  3. Loop the ribbon around the heel of the shoe.
  4. Cross the ribbon across the heel covering of the shoe, making an X across it and causing the ribbon to have one end on either side of your ankle.
  5. Tie the ribbon (tightly) around your ankle and tie a nice bow on the outside of your ankle on the right side of your right ankle, and the left side of your left one.
  6. Cut the ribbon to size if there is too much excess or the bow is too big that it droops.
  7. Finished.

Tips

  • If the ribbon matches the shoe, you most likely will not even see that it isn't part of the actual shoe- it will just look like a gorgeous ankle strap
  • Get a comfortable type of ribbon so it feels comfortable and does not chafe your ankle.

Warnings

  • Don't tie the ribbon TOO tightly around your ankle (or it will cut off your circulation or restrict your movement) or to loosely (it will fall off/become undone).
