Apply Makeup to Small Eyes

If eyes are the window to the soul, you want them to be as big and beautiful as possible. With the right makeup and a bit of practice, you'll have big, pretty eyes in no time.

Steps

  1. Make sure that your eyebrows are trimmed and plucked. A strong, well-groomed brow really affects and defines the shape of your eyes.
  2. First, prime your eyes so your makeup will last as long as possible, This can be done by patting a primer onto your lids and up to your eyebrow. Using concealer and powder is just as effective.
  3. The next step is choosing the color of your eyeliner. Choose a color that will bring out your eye color. (Chocolate brown for blue eyes, plum for green eyes, black or blue for brown eyes, and pinkish-purple shades for hazel eyes)
  4. To apply the eyeliner, start at the inside corner of your upper lid and feather the eyeliner towards the outer corner, using short strokes to avoid a thick, solid line. You want to get as close to the lash line as possible. When you reach the outer corner of your lid, fan the line out slightly passed where it ends.
  5. Another trick is to put on shimmery (not glittery!) white power on the inner corners of your lids, on the brow bone, and right below the outer corners of your eyes. This attracts light to your eyes and makes them stand out more.
  6. Using a curler, curl your eyelashes before you finish with mascara. Then with the mascara wand, start at the base of your eyelashes and wiggle it side to side as you move up to the tips. The trick to avoiding clumpy eyelashes is to apply the second coat before the first coat dries. That way there are no clumps and no flakes.
  7. When applying mascara to your bottom lashes, always remember this: Less is more! Turn the mascara wand to a vertical position and run along bottom lashes that way. A second coat is not recommended, because it will make clumps way more likely to happen.

Tips

  • Apply white eyeliner in the lower lash waterline for bigger looking eyes
  • Two types of mascaras that are inexpensive and effective for long, thick eyelashes are Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto and CoverGirl Lash Blast.
  • If your eyebrows are very light or sparse, fill them in with a matte shadow that a tiny bit darker than your hair color. You can't pull off a dramatic eye without a strong brow!
  • If you have Eliminate Dark Circles with Concealer, cover them with a pinkish concealer and then set it with power before you start your eye makeup.
  • For an evening look, apply a deep eye shadow on your top lids, or in the crease above your lids.
