Back Up Drivers with Double Driver

The drivers on your computer are just as important as your personal files. If you want to backup your drivers, you might consider doing it manually. However, this is a time-consuming approach. A vast majority of PC users use a software program instead. Double Driver is a highly-rated freeware program that lets you back up your drivers quickly.

Steps

Driver Backup

  1. Start off by downloading and installing the program Double Driver found here: Double Driver and select the Download Mirror.
    • A new window will appear. Click the Save button to download the software.
    • When the download is completed, open the file with WinZip.
    • In the zip file, there is a folder called "Double Driver." Double-click it, and then double click on "dd.exe." This will open the Double Driver program.
  2. Click on "Backup." This will bring up a new screen that displays drivers you have backed up. No drivers will appear when you run the program for the first time.
  3. Scan your computer for drivers. Click on the button "Scan Current Systems," found near the bottom of the screen. The program should complete a scan almost instantly. You will then see the names, versions, dates, providers and class of drivers in your system. The program will also select the drivers that are currently in use.
  4. Select the drivers you want to back up and click "Backup Now."
    • If you want to backup all of your drivers, simply click the arrow next to the "Select" button, under the "Backup" menu. You can choose to select all or select none. You can also choose the "Invert" option, which means that the program will back up all of the drivers that you leave unselected.
  5. Select where you would like to save backup your files and the output type. You can choose to save drivers to either a structured folder, zip file or an executable file. Then hit "OK." Depending on how many drivers you are backing up and the output type you've selected, the process could take up to a few minutes.

Restore Drivers

  1. Open up the Double Driver software and navigate to the "Restore" menu.
  2. Click on the "Locate Backup" button and select your backup location. This may be the default location for the program, or it could be stored as a zipped file or located elsewhere. Click "OK."
  3. Select the drivers you want to restore. The program will show the available drivers. Choose the ones you need and hit the "Restore Now" button. Your drivers are now backed up and ready to go.

Tips

  • You can also scan any system that you have access to, whether it's one on a portable drive or a computer on the network. Instead of clicking the "Scan Current System" button, click "Scan Other System" and follow the same process.
  • You can save and print your driver list with Double Driver, in addition to getting a free driver backup.

Warnings

  • Restoring drivers can sometimes prevent windows from starting up correctly so be sure to create a system restore point before restoring drivers.
  • Double Driver is one of the only actual free driver backup programs. Stay away from "free trial" backup programs, as they will cost you money in the long run.
