Be Successful for the School Talent Show

Participating in a school talent show is a great way to show off a particular talent in front of your friends and the school audience. Everyone is good at something, so don't be afraid to try out! Singing well or playing an instrument in a talent show is a great way to put your skills to use. Remember that talents come in many forms, so feel confident in yourself, and at least try out. There's always a chance you might even come in first! Remember to bow at the end!

Steps

  1. Think of something that you do well that would fit into a talent show. It could be singing, dancing, or playing an instrument. Make sure that the act you are doing showcases your talents. If you are doing anything involving music, make sure the music lyrics are compliant with your school's code.
  2. Practice to make sure you have your act all ready the day you try out. If your act is too hard or a part of it is difficult, edit that part out, redo it, or find something different to do.
  3. Sign up and try out. Relax. Just go into the room and do your thing! Remember to say "Thank you" when you are done. You will find out later if you got in. If you did, congratulate yourself! If you didn't, ask the judges what fault they found in your performance so you know what to look out for next time!
  4. Select the clothes you want to wear during the performance and makeup suitable for your act, if any.
  5. Practice in front of family and friends. This is your time to mess up. Try on your outfit and makeup to see how it looks, and ask others. Accept advice or criticism when given.

Tips

  • If you get nervous, don't sweat it. You know you can do it, so do your best!
  • If you mess up, try to act like nothing happened; no one will suspect a thing, because they probably don't know the routine you're doing, and therefore will only be able to notice a mistake when you act like you made one.
  • Remember to relax the day of the audition. By this time, you should have rehearsed about a dozen times in front of the mirror, and in front of friends and family. Be Positive that you can and will do your best. If you do not get the part, keep practicing until you get it.
  • Dance or sing in the middle of the stage, not on the side because you won't stand out.
  • If you're singing don't just stand there, walk around the whole stage so that peoples eyes will follow you all the way, even if it's a slow song you can walk slowly.
  • Ask your friends to be honest if you are performing in front of them.
  • Make sure your routine is appropriate and follows all the school rules. You wouldn't want to go through all that work for nothing!
  • Sometimes it's a lot more fun to do performances with friends. Get together with your best friends and put on a show!
  • Just remember, to get good judgement you must have experience, and experience is achieved through instances of bad judgement.
  • Ignore the audience until the end of what you are doing.
  • Don't be embarrassed to move around, it's better than just standing there all nervous. Moving will relax yourself and help your performance in vocal abilities.
  • Do not worry if you can not get friends to do the talent show with because sometimes you just got to do it solo.
  • Use hand movements to emphasize emotion! Just don't over use them because it gives the impression that you are nervous and scared!
  • Double check to see if you have everything and come with a positive attitude!
  • Be prepared to sing loud, just in case there are no mics available.
  • Have the speakers, music, and props set up before hand, or make a plan that the school talent show's hosted would approve of.

Warnings

  • Make sure you have the right CD.
  • If you're a singer ensure you warm up your voice beforehand to avoid damage.
  • If your planning on singing, don't drink milk before the show. [citation needed]
  • Don't eat too much before the show, or you could get a stomach ache that will diminish your performance.
  • If you're a dancer, make sure you stretch before you perform...you wouldn't want to pull anything while you're on stage and forfeit the show.
  • If you're a musician, make sure your instrument is in tune.
  • Save time for other things besides the show.
  • If you don't feel well, don't go through with the performance.
