Build a Golf Club
Have you ever wondered how to build a golf club? This task is very simple and can be a fun way to make a set of clubs that are tailored to your personal preference. Here is a detailed instruction on how to build one.
Steps
- Place the rubber vise clamp on the middle of the shaft.
- Place the shaft in the vise at the point of the rubber vise clamp and tighten.
- Cut a piece of 2-inch two-sided grip tape the length of the grip.
- Place this piece of tape on the length; on the grip end of the shaft and fold it around.
- Plug the hole on the bottom of the grip with your finger and fill it more than halfway with grip solvent.
- Release the plug and pour the solvent on the grip tape.
- Slide the grip onto the tape.
- From the club head end, cut the shaft to the desired length using the cutoff wheel on a bench grinder.
- Using a strip of 1-inch thick sanding paper, sand the tip of the shaft to make a rough surface to which the epoxy will adhere.
- Place the ferrule on the end of the shaft and tap it down, leaving an inch of the shaft exposed.
- Mix the two shafting epoxies together with the popsicle stick at a 1:1 ratio in a medicine cup.
- Apply the epoxy mix to the sanded tip of the shaft.
- Place the shaft into the hole on the desired club head and rotate until the epoxy bonds.
- Wipe any excess epoxy off, and set the club aside for a few hours so that it can dry. You are finished!
