Camouflage Your Paintball Gear

If you are like me and like to play woodsball, these are some good tips to follow to make sure nobody can see you. Even something that's just a dark green can make a world of difference in paintball.

Steps

  1. Buy camouflage clothes (jacket, pants, etc.) These are very important! There are many types of camouflage.
  2. Buy some camouflage fabric, which can be found at hunting stores. You can also use netting with jute twine tied on.
  3. Cut the cloth into little strips of like size, so you can hang them from your mask or gear. You can also gorilla glue them (with small amounts of gorilla glue) to any part of your mask.
  4. Duct-tape or glue some more of the camouflage cloth onto your other gear (ex. pods, vests, CO2 tank, etc...)
  5. Buy some camouflage tape (which can be found at hunting stores) and put it all over your gun, mask, CO2 tanks(note: some fields may not fill tank if it is covered in stickers, tape, etc.), pods, barrel, hopper, and whatever else you want. Also make sure that the camouflage tape is non-reflective, or it will give away your position.
  6. Practice moving quietly and stealthily. Move slowly and remain aware of your surroundings.
  7. Another idea is to find a brown colored rope or shoelace and take strips of camouflage fabric and tie them to the rope and then wrap the rope around the gun, it is the way military snipers camouflage their weapons.
  8. Another tactic is to wrap the camouflage strips around your entire body, and put nearby fallen leaves, sticks, and grass in the camouflage to create a Ghillie suit.

Tips

  • There are many types of camouflage, and you should choose one appropriate to your location.
  • If you are planning on buying a new gun soon, get a camouflage or flat black version, or paint it yourself - shiny guns and barrels can stick out in the woods.
  • You may also purchase a 'Ghillie Suit', they can be expensive but they are certainly worth it. One can also be made using some decorative fish netting and fabric dye from a craft store, along with a role of burlap landscape fabric from a hardware store. A decent suit can be made for around $30.
  • You can get a professional painting called "Duracoat", but this can be expensive.
  • Duct tape doesn't always work, it has to be a dull camouflage, not a shiny camouflage, which most duct tapes are. It can also leave a residue on the gun, or worse it can actually take the paint off on some occasions. Instead, you can use electrical tape to hide down strips of cloth.

Warnings

  • Make sure your team knows where you are...or risk being hit by friendly fire!
  • Do not lay out in an area that you run the risk of being stepped on by the opposing team. This tends to give away your position.

Things You'll Need

  • Paintball gun and other gear (see above)
  • Camouflage clothes
  • Camouflage cloth (such as a handkerchief)
