Check Your Airpod Battery

Airpods are a wireless earphone system. They are very easy to connect to computers, watches, phones and other Apple devices.[1] You can charge your wireless earphones on the road by putting them in your case, which contains multiple charges. To charge the case and the earphones, you can connect the Lightning connector from your case to a USB port. Check the battery status on your iPhone, watch, or computer, or on the case itself.[2]

Steps

Using Your iPhone or Watch

  1. Open the Airpod case beside your iPhone. Look at the screen on your iPhone. You will see the battery status as a percentage on your iPhone.[3] You should see the battery status for both your earphones and the case itself.[1]
    • It is important to hold the case closely to your phone.[1]
    • It will take a few seconds after opening the case for the charge status to show up on your iPhone.[1]
    • If you don’t see the charge status on your iPhone, try closing and reopening the case.[4]
  2. Check notifications on your iPhone. Swipe down on your iPhone to open notifications. Look for the specific percentage of battery life left on your Airpods. You will need the iOS 9 operating system to use this method.[5] It is also necessary to have at least one earphone in your case and for the case to be open.[1]
    • If you don’t have your Airpods added to your notifications panel, press the edit button. Then, press the plus sign beside the Battery listing and add your Airpods.
  3. View the Today panel. Swipe from left to right on your iPhone. Look for the update on the charge level of your Airpods. You will need to have the Batteries widget installed to see this update.[4]
    • To install the Batteries widget, you will need to open up notifications. Then, click “edit” on the bottom of the Today panel. Find and add the Batteries widget.[6]
  4. Look on your Apple watch. Open the control center on your Apple watch. Press the battery icon. You will see the battery status of your watch and your Airpods.[3]

Checking on Your Case or Computer

  1. Check the battery status from your computer. Open the lid on your Airpods charging case. Then, click on the bluetooth symbol on your desktop menu. Hover your mouse over "Airpods with charging case." You will see the battery status as an image with a percentage.[2]
  2. Check the light on the Airpod case. Look at the light located between the two containers for your earphones. If you have your earphones in the case, the light will indicate the charging status of the earphones. If you don’t have your earphones in the case, the light will indicate the status of the case itself. Check the color of the light to determine the battery status:[2]
    • If the light is green, the case and/or earphones are charged.
    • If the light is amber, there is less than one charge in the case and/or earphones.
  3. Glean additional information from the Airpod case light. The light can also indicate the connection status between the earphones and other devices:[2]
    • If the light is flashing white, it means the Airpods are ready to set up with a device.
    • If you see a flashing amber light, you need to try to set up the Airpods again.

Saving Battery Life

  1. Keep your Airpods in their case as much as possible. If you are not using your Airpods, you may as well keep them in the case. The case will keep them charged and ready to go.
  2. Avoid too much opening and closing of the case. Opening and closing the case too much can reduce the battery life. Unless you need to take the earphones out of the case, put them back in or check the battery status, you should avoid opening and closing the case.[2]
    • If you leave the case open for too long, it will also drain the battery.[1]
    • It is also a good idea to clean the case and earphones with a lint-free cloth.[1]
  3. Plug your Airpods into your Macintosh computer. You will get the fastest charging times if you plug the Airpods into your Macintosh computer. You can also get fast charging speeds by using a USB charger for iPhone or iPad.[2]
  4. Charge the Airpods at a comfortable temperature. It should be between 0 and 35 Celsius (32-95 Fahrenheit) in the room where you are charging the case and Airpods. This will ensure a smooth charging process.[1]
  5. Fix battery drain by resetting your Airpods. Hold down the set up button on your case until you see the amber light flashing. Hold it for at least fifteen seconds. Then, reconnect your Airpods to your devices.[7]
    • If resetting does not solve the issue, you should return the Airpods to the retailer.
