Check if Your Turkey Is Recalled

On Nov. 14, 2010, a recall was issued for about 2,600 pounds (1,179kg) of ready-to-eat turkey breast that was distributed nation-wide and available via catalog and online sales. The meat from Texas-based New Braunfels Smokehouse may be contaminated with a bacteria known as Listeria monocytogenes, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).[1] Use these steps to determine if your turkey product is part of the recall.

Steps

  1. Check the product name and package code. Products included in the recall use the following packaging codes that can be found on the label:

    • 4-6 pound packages of Stegall Boneless Hickory Smoked Turkey Breast, code 2210
    • 4-6 pound packages of Stegall Spiral Sliced Hickory Smoked Turkey Breast, codes 2180 or 2210
  2. Check the USDA mark of inspection. The mark is found on each product and all the recalled items have the code “P-975” on them.
  3. Check the date. The recalled items were produced on Aug. 4, 2010.
  4. Dispose of the recalled turkey. If your turkey has been recalled, dispose of it immediately.
