Connect Broadband to Dish Network Receiver

Connecting your Dish Network receiver to broadband Internet will allow you to gain access to thousands of movies and television shows on your TV and mobile devices. You can connect broadband to your Dish Network receiver using Wi-Fi, ethernet, or a Dish Network Hopper.

Steps

Wi-Fi with Internal Wireless

  1. Verify that your wireless router and television are powered on.
  2. Press the “Menu” button on your Dish Network remote and select “Settings.
  3. Select “Network Setup,” then select “Broadband.
  4. Select “Wireless Setup,” then select “Wizard. A list of all nearby available Wi-Fi networks will display on-screen.
  5. Highlight the name of your wireless network, then select “Next.
  6. Enter the password for your wireless network into the “Encryption Setup” pop-up. If your Wi-Fi network is not password-protected, no pop-up will display on-screen.
  7. Select “Done. Your Dish Network receiver will now be connected to broadband via Wi-Fi.[1]

Wi-Fi with Wireless Adapter

  1. Connect your wireless adapter to your Dish Network receiver. The adapter must be plugged into the port located between the HDMI and ethernet ports. At this time, Netgear model WNDA3100v2 is the only Wi-Fi adapter supported for use by Dish Network.
  2. Select “Wizard” when the “Attention” dialog box displays on-screen. A list of all nearby available Wi-Fi networks will display on-screen.
  3. Highlight the name of your wireless network, then select “Next.
  4. Enter the password for your wireless network into the “Encryption Setup” pop-up. If your Wi-Fi network is not password-protected, no pop-up will display on-screen.
  5. Select “Done. Your Dish Network receiver will now be connected to broadband via Wi-Fi.

Ethernet

  1. Verify that your Internet router is powered on.
  2. Connect an ethernet cable to the port labeled “Ethernet” on your Dish Network receiver.
  3. Connect the other end of the ethernet cable to your Internet router. Your Dish Network receiver will now be connected to broadband via ethernet.

Connected Hopper

  1. Verify that your Dish Network Hopper is connected to your Internet. The Hopper is a digital video recording box available from Dish Network.
  2. Power on your television and press the “Menu” button on your Dish Network remote.
  3. Select “Settings,” then select “Network Setup.
  4. Select “Broadband,” then select “Network Details.
  5. Select “Bridging,” then select “Enable.
  6. Select “Save. Your Dish Network receiver will now be connected to broadband via the Hopper.

Hopper Internet Connector (HIC)

  1. Connect the Internet router to your HIC using an ethernet cable. The ethernet port on the HIC is labeled accordingly.
  2. Connect a coaxial cable to the “Pass Thru” port on the Hopper.
  3. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the “Sat In” port of your Joey. The Joey is a Dish Network box that connects to your main receive and Hopper to access the DVR system on other televisions and devices in your home.
  4. Connect another coaxial cable to the “HVN” port on the back of your HIC.
  5. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable into the coaxial cable jack in the wall of your home. Your Dish Network receiver will now be connected to broadband via the HIC.

Troubleshooting

  1. Unplug your Dish Network receiver for approximately 10 seconds if you are unable to connect to the Internet. This will reset the receiver and help resolve connectivity problems.
    • Wait a full five minutes before attempting to connect to the Internet using Dish Network. The receiver requires five minutes to fully reset.
  2. Disconnect your Internet router from its power source for about 10 seconds if you cannot establish an Internet connection. This will reset your Internet connection and help resolve connectivity problems.
  3. Try using another ethernet cable if you’re unable to connect to the Internet using ethernet or a Hopper connection. A faulty ethernet cable can prevent you from being able to connect to the Internet.
  4. Verify that the DSL light is green, and that the Internet light is green on your router. If there are no lights, or the lights are red, contact your Internet Service Provider to resolve problems with Internet connectivity.[2]
