Connect to the Internet Wirelessly in Windows 7
This guide shows how to connect your Windows 7 PC to a wireless network.
Steps
- Turn on your computer and the router you want to connect to.
- Find the network information. In order to sign onto the network, you'll need to know the network's name and the password, if there is a password.
- Make sure that the router is in range. If you're out of range of the router, you'll either have a poor connection, or you just won't be able to connect at all.
- Look for the Wi-Fi icon in the toolbar. The icon will be five bars with a yellow star over it, and is located on the right-hand side of the toolbar.
- Click on the Wi-Fi icon. This will pull up the menu.
- Select the name of the network you want to connect to.
- Click Connect.
- Wait to be prompted for a password. Once you're prompted for the security password, type it in, ensuring that it's case sensitive.
- Watch the icon change to show your signal strength. You should now be connected to the Wi-Fi.
Tips
- If your router doesn't show, try restarting your computer and/or the router.
- Some old computers can't connect wirelessly to the internet. In this case, you may have to hook the computer up via ethernet instead.
