Convert a Mixed Fraction
Usually students get confused to convert a mixed fraction, into a single improper fraction (where the top is larger than the bottom). This article may help those who are in need of explanation.
Steps
Converting a Mixed Fraction
- Get a calculator and scratch paper
- Know that the formula to remember for converting the mixed fraction to an improper fraction is (denominator x whole number) + numerator.
- For example the mixed fraction is 5 3/4. The computation is [4 (denominator) x 5 (whole number)] + 3(numerator).
- You will get 23. This will be your new numerator. Now you have to put it over the original denominator, so that you will end up with 23/4.
