Contents
Steps
Linking a Page Internally
This will add a link to a page that is on wikiHow.com.
Easy Method
- Put double brackets [[ and ]] around the word you want to link. For example: On wikiHow, writing [[Relax]], will produce Relax. Article titles are case sensitive, so you must have the title correctly capitalized.
Advanced Editing Method
- Get in edit mode by clicking the "Edit" button. On wikiHow click again to reach "Advanced Editing".
- Highlight the word you want internally linked to a page.
- Click the internal link icon, the third button after bold and italicize.
- Click save.
Linking to an External Page
This will add a link to a page that is not on the wikiHow site.
- Get in edit mode by clicking the "Edit" button. On wikiHow click again to arrive on "Advanced Editing".
- Highlight the word you want to link to an external website.
- Hit the external link button, the fourth button after internal link.
- Insert the URL within the bracket before the word you want to put external link.
- It would look like this. [http:/www.google.com Google]
- Make sure there is a single space between URL and Words external linked.
- Click save button.
Tips
- Make sure that there is a single character space between the URL and the word linked.
- A "red" word means page doesn't exist. A "green" word means page existed.
- It will help if you read the guide to wiki editing at MediaWiki.
- It is not necessary to go into Advanced editing to add links a certain way. Just memorize the coding shown here.
Warnings
- Do not include "how to" in the link. [[How to Relax]] will not work, whereas [[Relax]] will.
