Create a Hoverboard

A lot of video games include hover boards and/or other floating vehicles. If you've ever wanted to make your own, wikiHow can help - just follow the steps outlined below.

Steps

  1. Find a snowboard that is the right size for you (from ground to nose level). The nice wooden ones are OK but the lighter they are, the better(i.e. plastic cheap ones)note: this will completely ruin your board, so don't use an expensive one(i.e. Burton)
  2. Buy 3-4 leaf blowers. The 250 dollar ones work best, but the cheaper 50 dollar ones are fine, too. You should have at least 2 for the bottom, and two smaller on to act as a thruster.
  3. Remove the tube that concentrates the air in one direction, this will just get in the way. Now with the leaf blowers facing downward (the part that shoots air out facing the ground), attach two of the blowers to the bottom of the board. You will have to find your own way, because all models are different (screws work the best). Test this out by turning on the blowers and see if you have lift. If you do, try sitting on the board in the air. If this doesn't work, add more blowers depending on how much you weigh. (1 blower should lift 150lbs easily). Note: always have a spotter with you to prevent injuries.
  4. Attach the third blower to the back of the board. This should be done with the part that shoots air facing backwards. Test this out by holding the board and turning the rear blower on and feeling for a forward motion. If you don't feel it, you might need a more powerful blower for thrust. The board is now ready.
  5. Place 2 pieces of balsa wood (extremely lightweight and delicate) on the sides for stability when it does go into the air.



Tips

  • If you want to turn, try leaning to the side you want to turn towards.
  • If you want to practice, try in snow or soft grass. When you get good at it, show off to your friends in the street, and even try some skateboard/snowboard tricks.
  • You should probably use gas powered blowers, as they have more power.
  • Don't completely destroy the blowers, if they don't work, just return them.
  • Wear safety gear, even though it won't go too high off the ground.
  • You might want to add a kill switch so you can easily turn off all blowers at once!

Warnings

  • Don't ride off ramps, as this may damage your blowers.
  • Don't try this if you are short on cash, as it can cost a lot of money.
  • If you are being chased, do not try to hover over water, since regular "hover boards don't work over water" (as in the movie Back to the Future: Part 2 states).
  • Be careful with the gas blowers, they are gas and may be hazardous to your health.
