Create a Webmail Email Account

So, you only have that business e-mail address, and you're not allowed to use it out of work. You want an email of your own that you can use anytime you want? Read this guide!

Steps

  1. Search. Search on your favorite search engine, such as Google or Ask Jeeves. Search "email" and "mail" as your search terms. View every page that says free email.
  2. Examine the features. Does it have virus protection? Does it have a spam filter? How much free space is allowed?
  3. Consider the protocol(s)-- POP/IMAP/SMTP. Can you receive emails through POP or IMAP servers? Can you use their SMTP servers? Can you do all this for free?
  4. Pick an email provider from that Search Engine search. Which one has these features?
  5. Pick a good username. Short names attract more spam such as bob@gmail.com. If you make your username your full name such as john.smith@gmail.com, you might get a lot of spam as well because some spammers try random names like that. You might want to try something longer.
  6. Register that perfect username. Remember to use it only for personal use. If you will get some email from your business put them in your contacts or a 'whitelist', so the mails from your business won't get into your spam/bulk mail folder.

Tips

  • If you have another e-mail account, you can format it in settings-accounts-retrieve mail from another account. When you're done, presto! You can now load mail from another mail account(s).
  • When it comes to your email address name, try not to include your age(e.g. John17@..) or what year(John2008@...) or you'll have to make a new up-to-date one when the year/age changes.
  • It's not worth paying for an email address. You can get a free email address at Gmail that has about 2500 megabytes (and counting!) and is pretty reliable.

Warnings

  • Don't make that many email accounts.
