Create the Indiana Jones Face Melt Effect
Filming your own movie that ends with the bad guy getting his face melted off? Doing a spoof of Make an Indiana Jones Movie? Find out below how to create your own face-melting scene!
Steps
- Start rubbing the red Create Cornstarch Playdough on the skull. Focus on the cheeks, temples, and eye sockets because these are the areas that have the most muscle on the head.
- You're going to be building on layer upon layer of wax to create the muscle, tendons and skin of the human face.
- Fill a large pot (like a crab cooker) about halfway with water. Put the wax in a heat-safe bowl and put the bowl in the boiling water. Slowly melt the wax with several old crayons (red and purple for muscle color).
- Paint on several layers of the wax, including a wax nose.
- Heat up and apply several layers of white wax for the skin. For the inside of the mouth, use more red wax. You can create a wax tongue by forming some red playdough into a tongue shape and dipping it into the red wax. Peel the wax off the playdough tongue and use the mold as the tongue. You can also create things like lips and eyebrow ridges by using some clear wax and forming them in the appropriate spots.
- Create some flesh-tone wax and apply it. Do some finishing touches by putting on some make-up and hair for the lips and eyebrows, as well as some other facial hair if you'd like.
- Get a heat-gun or a hair dryer to melt the face. You can hold it off camera or crop it out using a green screen. Either way, use some fresh tape, melt away, and speed it up during post-production to get a more rapid effect. Have fun!
