Defeat the Tyrannosaurus Rex in Tomb Raider Anniversary
This is to help any Tomb Raider beginners or those struggling to play Tomb Raider: Anniversary. This is about how to defeat only the Tyrannosaurus Rex, but I will post how to defeat the other three bosses.
Steps
- Tyrannosaurs Rex is found in Peru, Level 3: The Lost Valley. There will be a cutscene before the actual battle. During the cutscene, there will be two parts involving you. When the glowing white arrows appear, press the required keys W/S/A/D (I have only played on PC, but the rule goes for all gaming systems) depending on where the arrow is pointing.
- Begin battling the Tyrannosaurus Rex by simply shooting at him with your pistols from afar. (Note: The Tyrannosaurus' rage bar at the top right of your screen) it will increase the more you shoot at the Tyrannosaurus. The Tyrannosaurs battles by advancing on you, chomping, and slashing with his tail. He's slow, so he's easy to avoid.
- Adrenaline Dodge: Once the Tyrannosaurs' rage is at its peak, the Tyrannosaur will charge. If you have time, move to stand in front of a spiked bar. Once the screen turns blurry, use the Adrenaline Dodge (going either left or right) while locked on the Tyrannosaur. The moment it strikes red, shoot at him. The Tyrannosaur will fumble, and ram into the spiked bar (if Lara is standing in front of one) causing extreme damage to the Tyrannosaur. You can also defeat the Tyrannosaur without the use of the spiked bars in case you can't get to one in time; however, it takes longer time to defeat the Tyrannosaur.
- Repeat Step #3. Eventually the Tyrannosaur's health will decrease all the way, and you can continue Lara's adventure.
Tips
- Adrenaline Dodge: This is a new feature to the Tomb Raider games. This move is needed in Anniversary to defeat the three major bosses. The Adrenaline Dodge is used differently depending on which gaming system you are playing Anniversary on. I, myself, have only played the PC version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary, so I can help you from there. (The rules imply, however, with all the gaming systems Anniversary is available on) Just read the guide that comes with the game.
- In Tomb Raider, when you provoke the enemies by shooting at them, their rage will increase, and some of them will charge Lara. When they do, the screen turns blurry, and time slows down, giving Lara the chance to counterattack. For PC, when the screen goes blurry, swiftly use the cursor keys W/S/A/D (much easier than trying to use the arrow keys - unless you have three hands!)along with the left Shift key to dodge, and only fire when the lock-target turns from gray to red! For smaller enemies: wolves, raptors, mummies, etc... the results usually an instant kill. For the bosses, it will only stun them, startle them, or trip them.
- Tyrannosaurs Rex Tips: The battle moves along fast if you shoot at the Tyrannosaur while standing in front of a spiked bar. But do not get ahead of yourself. If the Tyrannosaur gets close, move aside, even if it means using the Adrenaline Dodge away from a spiked bar.
- Make sure to save your game! Always! I had one occurrence where the game froze on me during my battle with the Tyrannosaur and I got pushed far back into the game, having to do most of the level all over again.
