Do a Round off Back Handspring Back Tuck on the Floor
Round off back handspring back tucks are really fun but take lots of practice. You should first practice on a tumble track, mat, or grass before you do it on a hard surface with no give in it. Do it with someone there first, like a coach or a strong spotter.
Steps
- There are two types of Round offs: power hurdle and run hurdle. Run hurdle is the easier way to do it. Take however many running steps you need to get momentum. Test to see which foot is more effective, and then hurdle. A hurdle is like a skip. You'd hop off of your opposite foot and push off the foot you'd normally use. Think of it as a cartwheel but faster, and land with both feet together and rebound as high as possible. A rebound is when you land something and then jump really high like you were trying to something after your first skill. To rebound, you just punch the ground as hard as you can with your feet after you land your skill, and that's what gets you to rebound. Power hurdles take a little more power, and that's why they are called "power" hurdles. You jump into lunge position. Push off whatever leg your using and then just do the round off and don't forget the rebound.
- To do a back handspring out of roundoff you should get your momentum from the running or power hurdle round off and rebound, and jump back onto your arms by sitting back. Think of it as sitting in a chair. You don't want to jump up or you would be undercutting, which is bad for your back. After your hands hit the ground, finish it by pushing off the ground and drive your feet over. Don't chicken out in the middle of it. If you really go quick, jump back and not up, you can have a good back handspring. Remember to drive your heels over quickly, and push hard off your arms. Keep driving those heels over and land on your feet.
- You should land with your arms up and rebound out of it high so you can do a back tuck.
- To do a back tuck out of your back handspring practice the form of the back tuck by rebounding really high and at your highest point of the rebound, jump up. But don't tuck because that is what makes you flip backwards. After this, when you do try to rotate, hold the back of your knees and focus on one spot in the distance all the way through the flip until your knees get in the way. Make sure you go really high and stick your landing. You must keep a tight tuck all the way through. Don't put your legs straight or that is called a back layout. You should land with your feet planted on the ground and arms straight in front of you. Your feet should be together and don't tuck your feet too tight.
Tips
- During the back tuck, your aim is up not back or it will be a board back (which is painful). Arms go from up to lightly hugging your knees in the tucking position. Drive your heels and don't stop in the middle of this trick. Remember that your aim is up. Keep your back rounded all the way through till you land. You should land with your arms straight out in front of you with your knees slightly bent. After you've 'stuck your landing', then you straighten your legs and your arms go straight up with 'gymnastics fingers'.
- You want to have a really high rebound before you tuck so you can flip over completely.
- During the back handspring, drive your heels over. Keep your arms by your ears at all times and push all the way through your fingertips. Your aim is to go back not up.
- During the round off, really push all the way through your fingertips, but don't roll off of them. Don't bend your arms at all. Drive your heels over all the way through the round off. For a round off, your aim is to go forward.
Warnings
- Don't try this stunt without the help of spotters or coaches.
- Don't stop in the middle of anything or you could end up hurt.
- Make sure you have a coach or a spotter before you try this if you've never done it before.
- Don't try a back tuck out of this if you haven't had any training.
