Have you ever wanted to learn how to do a toe spin, or a pirouette? If so, this article will teach you how!
Steps
- Start with your feet in parallel, or first position if doing this ballet-style.
- Tendu (point) your right leg to the side (a la seconde)
- Close your right leg back in fourth position, plie-ing, or bending your knees.
- Spring off your back foot onto your front foot.
- Bring your working leg (in this case, the right) into passe or toe at the knee. Make sure your knee is facing side, and not forward.
- Turn. Use your force from your back leg to get you around. Remember to spot so that you don't get dizzy. Try to keep balance!
- Close fourth, and you are done!
Tips
- Use your core.
- Try it on smooth surface, like wood floor. It will be much easier.
- Try springing onto releve without turning first. This is good practice and will make the actual turn easier.
- Spot! Pick an object in front of you, look at that object when turning as long as you can, then whip your head around so you're looking at it again. This will help you turn faster and make it so that you don't become dizzy!
- Don't try this on the carpet. You will hurt yourself! It's a myth that turns are safer on carpet. They're not.
- Use your arms; in ballet, use your arms to help balance and get you around your turn. Keep your arms in first position (or en avant) to maintain balance in ballet.
Warnings
- Stretch. Don't assume that just because you're flexible, your muscles are ready for work. If you don't stretch, you could strain or pull a muscle.
- This article will help you, but it won't replace a proper dance teacher.
