Do the Money in Fruit Trick

So you have a dollar or two? Want to use it for something interesting?

Steps

  1. Get a fruit large enough to hold a folded-up dollar bill. Take a knife, or similar object to put a {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} slice into the fruit, so the bill will be roughly in the middle of the fruit.
  2. Find a person to amaze. A great place would be your local market in the fruit section. Put your prepared (also known as 'gimmicked' or 'gaffed') fruit in with the rest, keeping the slit side away from the audience, remembering, of course, which fruit it is.
  3. Have the spectator choose a card/bill depending on how you are doing the trick, and mark it in some manner (their name works well).
  4. Make a switch under cover of misdirection, e.g., "Look over there!". Now you have the fake bill/card in your hand, with the real marked bill/card 'palmed.'
  5. 'Force' your 'gimmicked' fruit on your unsuspecting victim. There are a variety of methods to do this, but in essence, pick up one fruit in one hand and your gimmicked fruit in the hand that has the bill/card palmed. Ask them to indicate one of the fruits. If they choose the un-gimmicked fruit put that fruit back and thank them. If they choose the gimmicked fruit tell them that that is the fruit you'll use, and put the other fruit back.
  6. Go to the cash register and pay for the fruit, using the fake bill (if possible).
  7. On the way outside, while dealing with the cashier, push the folded bill/card into the fruit, and hand the fruit to the spectator.
  8. Once outside, if you still have the fake bill/card, ask the spectator to light the bill/card on fire.
  9. Take the fruit back from the spectator, pull out a knife, and start a cut in the same slice you made originally, and hand the fruit BACK to the spectator, and ask them to finish cutting/opening the fruit.
  10. Their signed bill/card is revealed to be inside.

  • It is paramount that you appear to keep everything fair and in the open. You must make the spectator believe that everything has been their choice.
  • Remember, this is all supposed to be fun. Keep it that way.
