Download from Kickasstorrents

Kickasstorrents is known for having a wide library of torrent files you can download, from music and movies to applications and books. However, before you can download these torrents, you will need a client. A torrent client is a program that will connect to other people with the same torrent file, allowing you to download the content.

Steps

Installing a Torrent Client

  1. Choose and install a torrent client. In order to download torrent files, you will need a torrent client. This program open the torrent file that you download and allows you to connect with other users that are sharing that file. Below are some guides for installing the more popular torrent clients:
    • Install-BitTorrent-Using-Azureus-Client
    • Install-uTorrent
    • Install-the-BitTorrent-Client
    • Note that most torrent clients will attempt to install other software alongside it. Most users will not want or need these additional programs, so make sure to decline them during the installation process.
  2. Configure your client. Once your torrent client is installed, you will want to make some configuration changes in order to get the best performance.
    • Open the Preferences menu and select "Directories". Enter a location that you want to save your completed torrents to.
    • Set your bandwidth limits in the "Bandwidth" section. You typically want your downloads to go at maximum speed, so set "0" as the download limit. You will want to limit your upload speed, as a max upload speed will make your web browsing very slow.
    • Enable protocol encryption. This will help hide your torrent traffic from your service provider, which may help when they try to throttle your torrent speeds. You can enable Protocol Encryption in the "BitTorrent" section of the Preferences menu.
  3. Open a port on your firewall. In the "Connections" section of the Preferences menu, you will see the port that your client uses to establish connections. Opening this port on your router may allow you to connect to other users easier. See this guide for details on opening ports.

Downloading from Kickasstorrents

  1. Open the Kickasstorrents website. Open your preferred web browser, and enter https://kickass.la in the address bar. Kickasstorrents has a lot of intrusive advertisements on the page, so it is recommended that you visit with an ad blocker enabled.
  2. Find the file you want. Use the search bar at the top of the page to find the file that you want to download. You may receive multiple entries for the same file, so you will need to decide which one you want to download.
    • Look at the number of seeders versus the number of leechers. Seeders are people whom have the complete file and leechers are people whom are currently downloading the file and may have segments of it, provided they are uploading at the same time. If there are more leechers than seeders, the download will take much longer. If there are only a handful of seeders, the download may take very long or may not be able to finish.
    • Read through the comments. Users can comment on torrents, as well as rate the quality. Reading through the comments can save you a lot of time if the file is a bad version or has a lot of errors. The comments section can also let you know if the torrent contains a virus.
    • Look at the different file sizes. This is most important for movies, as smaller files will generally mean lower quality. If you need the highest quality version available, you will likely want to download the largest file with a good number of seeders. The comments will help you determine how the quality is as well.
    • Learn about the movie rating abbreviations. "A" stands for audio and "V" stands for video. Many KAT members insert their "ratings" in the comment section about the audio and video outcome. For example, if a good amount of comments say, "A: 8 V: 9", it means on a scale from 1-10, it has good audio and excellent video. These ratings will help you greatly in choosing a file to download.
    • If you need a file that has support for other languages, be sure to check out the torrent details. This will usually let you know what audio tracks or subtitle files that the torrent contains.
  3. Download the torrent. Once you are satisfied that you've found the torrent you want, click the "Download" button next to it on the search result list (it looks like a small down arrow), or the "Download Torrent" button at the top of the torrent details page.
    • Torrent files are small and don't actually contain any of the content you want. The torrent file should download in a couple seconds.
  4. Open the torrent file in your client. If your browser displays the file at the bottom of the screen, click the torrent file. If you only have one torrent client installed on your computer, it should open in the client automatically. If it doesn't, right-click on the torrent file, select Open with.. and then browse for your torrent client.
  5. Wait for your file to download. Once you open the torrent file in your client, it will begin connecting to seeders and downloading. Torrent downloads typically take a little while to "warm up", but once you connect to a few good seeders you should see your download speed reach the max limit. Once the torrent is finished downloading, you'll be able to find it in the folder you specified.
  6. Seed your completed torrent. Torrents survive because of the community of seeders. It is generally expected that you share at least as much as you download. This ensures that others can get the same file that you did, and keeps torrents alive for a very long time.
