Dress for an Acting Audition
So, you're perfectly ready for your acting audition and can perform it without fail, but you suddenly realize 'I don't know what to wear!'. Well, here's an article with a few tips on how to dress for your acting audition!
Steps
- First of all, you need to know your character. You need to know whether your character is happy, sad, clever? Knowing this will help you out a lot, especially if you are a younger performer, because a casting agent/director is likely to be impressed and remember you if you stand out and literally 'become' your character in every way you can.
- Secondly if your character requires a long dress, for example, you should probably wear a long dress. If you can't do that, then anything similar like a long coat or top will work too. This gives the person/people watching you the idea that you are professional, and this is good because they want someone who can act, but who is also prepared for the potential role.
- Black is a good color for auditions because it doesn't attract attention, whereas a brightly colored top, for instance, could distract the casting director's eyes and cause them not to notice your brilliant acting. If there are no specific items mentioned in your audition piece that might help you with characterisation, then wear something like a plain top and jeans (or leggings) etc.
- Finally, check yourself before you leave for the audition. You don't want to turn up with a stain on your jeans and have no replacements (which are actually a good idea to bring, by the way!) and make sure you have everything you need, like props, a copy of the script etc. Good luck and even if it doesn't work out this once, at least you looked like the best one there!
Tips
- You don't want to over do your outfit though. If all you need is a long dress then make it plain!
- Pull your hair out of your face too, then the people you perform to can see your face properly and can hear you, and you won't get hair in your mouth!
Warnings
- Don't wear jewelry, unless it's just plain studs in your ears. You don't want to get tangled in a necklace, or have your bracelet fall off halfway through.
