Endure Roller Coasters if You Hate Them

Oh dear... Your family or friends are going to force you onto a roller coaster. No matter how many times you try, it is impossible to overcome your fear of roller coasters. Does that sound like you? Well, if you can't overcome them, you could try to endure them. You may find a new hobby!

Steps

  1. Try not to look at a ride beforehand. Don't watch any on-ride or off-ride videos on YouTube and attempt not to watch the ride in motion before you get on, if at all possible. It may make you think negative thoughts such as 'I'm going to hate this' and 'Can I get on' or even 'What happens if there is an accident. You may decide not to get on. Just keep your eyes on the queue ahead.
  2. Think positive thoughts. Think things like 'I might love this' and 'I'll be proud of myself'. It will help you immensely, even if you don't realise it. Avoid all negative thoughts.
  3. Don't hesitate when getting on. Just lock yourself in and don't be inclined to move until the ride is in motion, as you might want to unlock yourself and get off. Try to ignore comments by your family or friends like 'This is going to be scary' or 'You're scared aren't you!'. They may discourage you.
  4. Don't cry or mention your fear. It could result in you acknowledging how much you actually are scared of roller coasters and how much you don't want to get on.
  5. Sit by your family/friends if possible. Sitting next to a complete stranger my be unnerving, especially if they are a roller coaster fanatic, as it is not uncommon for them to make fun of and scare inexperienced riders with untrue stories and startling comments.
  6. Relax when the ride begins to move (unless it is an extremely fast roller coaster, such as Stealth, Speed, Rita, Formula Rossa, etc where it may be impossible to do so). Even if the ride is fast, or begins with a burst of extreme speed, remember to keep your head back and breathe normally.
  7. Keep your eyes open. Try your best to keep them open it will help you endure the experience and see what is coming. Keeping your eyes open will reduce nausea and make your experience less terrifying.
  8. Take your time to appreciate things. You might have never experienced anything this powerful or fast. This may be your only opportunity to appreciate the true speed and power of gravity, and natures forces, and of course, the ride itself.
  9. Don't try to hate every second, try to love it. If you can't, then keep your mind blank and take your mind off what you're doing, and don't think about what you're actually riding or where you are. Think about what appeals to you.
  10. If the ride ends and you didn't enjoy it, you don't have to go back on. However, you will most likely be having an adrenaline rush and have a big smile on your face!

Tips

  • Try not to sit at the rear of the ride. It feels like it whips you around more.
  • Remember, these rides are tested each morning. Nothing will happen to you. Besides, if something DOES happen, why would it happen when it's your turn to go on the ride?
  • If you absolutely hated it, remember, you never have to go through it ever again if you don't want to. Just stay away from theme parks!
  • If you loved it, try riding it again, and try to keep your eyes open if you had them closed, or try to actually become a fan. You may find yourself in an opposite position, making fun of your friends for not getting on other rides!
  • Keep your body in a locked position. It feels safer and prevents that sudden whiplash feel.
  • If riding a coaster in the dark, don't close your eyes-there is almost a guarantee that there will be animated, lighted effects.
  • If you are trying to convince a friend to ride roller coaster they don't want to ride, don't force them or tell them "your a baby" or "this ride is for KIDS".

Warnings

  • Don't suddenly go from small ride to big ride (like the Runaway Mine Train to Oblivion, perhaps). You may find yourself out of your league and becoming more scared of roller coasters, and unable to endure them.
