Enjoy a Visit to a Water Park

Water parks are a great place to escape summer heat and have lots of fun. They also often have gentler rides than roller-coaster parks, so they are fun for the whole family.

Steps

  1. Prepare for your visit to the water park. Wear your bathing suit under your clothes, or bring your bathing suit along. Bring sunblock, lip balm, cash, towels, and a change of clothes for the end of the day. If you have long hair, you could also bring a hairbrush. Also, feel free to bring on some sandals or flip flops!
  2. Get there right when it opens. You will have a couple of hours when the park isn't too crowded if you arrive early, so the lines will be shorter.
  3. Find a locker room. Most Water Parks have a locker/change room to store your things in and get changed. It's best to use them instead of bathrooms as in a bathroom you'll probably have to wait for a stall. In the locker room you can get changed on a bench if you don't mind other people (of your gender) seeing you naked.
  4. Apply sunblock. Nothing can ruin your day like getting a bad sunburn.
  5. Use the restroom before going on the rides. That way, you don't waste time looking for a restroom once you're in the park and walking around.
  6. Plan which rides to go on first. It may be helpful to get a map so that you can hit all the rides in one area and then move on to the next. Walking takes a lot of time, so you want to minimize it as much as possible.
  7. Go to the popular rides early in the morning or late in the evening when there is a short lineup to them. During mid-morning and afternoon, the lines might be very long, so you want to avoid that.
  8. Eat during the busiest time of day. Around noon, the water park might start to get very crowded. This is a good time to eat so that you don't spend hours in line.
  9. Cool off in the wave pool.Visit the wave pool after you eat. Most water parks will either have a wave pool or an area where you can lounge next to the water. This is a nice way to rest a bit and avoid really long lines.
  10. Go back to the lockers and re-apply sunblock before returning to the rides. By this time, the lines may be starting to die down (or else you're just bored with sitting around). Your sunblock has also probably worn off, so you need more to last you through the afternoon.
  11. Go on less popular rides, or rides that run fast. During the busy afternoon period, avoid the very popular rides. This is a good time to hit rides that move quickly so that you don't stand in line too long.
  12. See how busy the park is in the evening. Many water parks will start to empty out when 4:00 or 5:00 pm rolls around. Now is a good time to ride some of the more popular attractions (although they might still have long lines).
  13. Change in the lockers when you are ready to leave. Get out of your wet bathing suit and into dry clothes. Some water parks may have showers that you can rinse off in.NEVER change in toilet stalls, that is very unsanitary especially at water parks.

Tips

  • Avoid wearing something that could easily fall off during a ride, such as hats, glasses, or other loose items.
  • If it's not against the park's policies, bring snacks. Most food in water parks are overpriced, so bringing your own snacks could save you some money.
  • Take note of where the restrooms are so that you know which one is closest if you have to visit them.
  • It may be helpful to bring goggles for the rides, especially if you don't like water in your eyes.
  • Take lots of pictures. Water parks provide excellent photo opportunities, especially for families. Purchase a cheap, disposable waterproof camera before entering the park.
  • It may be difficult to carry things when you're going on rides, and leaving money at the storage booths is risky. Buy a small tube that hangs on your wrist or neck and store lip balm and cash in there.
  • Go to a park that has a low entry price but still has some good attractions if you're on a budget.
  • Most attractions don't allow flip-flops or shoes that could fall off during the ride. Wear water shoes/sandals or go barefoot if you don't want the hassle of taking your shoes off for every ride.
  • Water parks is one of the #1 places to lose things. Make sure you hide valuable Items and don't bring things that you need to have back or that are important to you. If you are going with a group, always have someone watching your stuff.

Warnings

  • You shouldn't go on some attractions if you have certain serious health issues - pay attention to warning signs on the rides, especially if you have back/neck problems or are pregnant.
  • Make sure you actually want to go on a ride before you get in line to it. It isn't nice to see that you've wasted half an hour in line and didn't even end up going on the ride.
  • Yeast and bacteria love wet swimwear,so don't wear swimwear home.
  • If you go on exciting attractions right after you eat, you might throw up.
  • Occasionally, adults may have urges to "cannonball" into the kiddies' pool. Try to resist these urges.
