Enjoy an Airshow

Airshows can include military and/or civilian performers. Jets often fly at airshows and so do planes with props. If you don't have the right supplies, it can be a long, hard experience.

Steps

  1. Bring sunscreen, money, a camera, chairs/blankets, and a hat, also a wagon may help. you can also bring binoculars (if you have any).
  2. If you can bring food, do it! The average hamburger or hot dog is about $5 plus another $2 for a drink. But the majority of shows don't let you bring coolers in. So plan on bringing extra money for food.
  3. Check the weather. Some performers fly in wet weather. If the cloud ceiling is below about {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} majority of performers won't fly, but if it's between 8,000 and 1,{{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} performers will fly a low show. If it's 15,{{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} to 8,000, performers will fly what's called a high show.
  4. Check your batteries and memory in your camera. Nothing is worse than having your batteries die or filling up a memory card right before the Red Arrows or Thunder-birds.

Tips

  • If you are sensitive to loud sounds, you may want to bring ear plugs as the jets performing may be loud.
  • Make sure you follow the show's Rules and Restrictions.
  • Leave late to avoid traffic.
  • Come early to get a good seat.
  • The main event, often a team show is normally at the end of the show.
  • Some shows include music concerts.
  • Be ready at Naval and Air Force Bases to be ready have everything in your possession to be checked. Even your car at certain bases.*
  • Leave all unnecessary items at home, like Coolers (if not a beach show), scooters, bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, knifes.
  • Most important rule of all, don't touch the planes unless the pilot or crew gives you permission to do so.

Warnings

  • Don't get dehydrated. Drink plenty of water
  • Wear plenty of sunscreen on sunny days.
