Steps

  1. Find the right job by looking for internet and/or newspaper postings related to your interests and skills.
  2. Be open to write a note directly to the HR recruiter, attaching your resume and/or to the General Manager if the company has this information in their web page.
  3. If you speak Spanish, write a note in Spanish. If you don't know this language, explain your real interest to learn on your own, or start a brief course before looking for a job in Mexico.
  4. Telephone interviews are good, but video calls are even better, so prepare the place that you could manage your interviews, avoiding kitchen, bathroom, bedroom or similar immediately.
  5. Apply all the tests the company may require, and be responsible with the timing, always checking with the recruiter that they are receiving the results of your profile.
  6. When you receive the job proposal, ask for the detailed incomes and taxes deductions in your local currency, this will avoid surprises for you in the future.

  8. Once you clear all your tax responsibilities, look for a place to live close to your office. Consider the traffic, safety and time before you make a decision.
  9. Downtown is not a safe place to live in many cities, so ask a human resources department good options to find a place to live, that is close to the office according to your budget and personal interests after work time.
  10. The companies in Mexico may fix your permission to work, but if not, look for the closest Mexican Embassy to follow their protocol. This will include some letters from the company that is hiring you, and some payments. You may negotiate who is going to pay.
  11. Although the nighttime is always fun in Mexico, and you can find many places to eat, drink, dance, etc., try to use taxis in the authorized places marked on the corners. Never catch one circulating on the streets.
  12. Many people speaks English in the big cities, but it's smart if you learn Spanish fast, and communicate through this language to understand the culture, the politics, the internal problems, and the way the Mexicans create personal relations.

During your weekends, travel the most that you can, and explore all available options due to the fact that this country is big, and you practically will never finish meeting every single corner! The culture is vast and varies from one state to another. Even inside one state, you could find a large variety of cultures to explore.

  • Water is safe for showering and cleaning, but it is better if you decide to drink bottled water.
