Steps
- Try promoting yourself. This involves informing others about our past accomplishments or positive characteristics. Examples can include comments such as " I am really well organized", " I get on well with people". etc.
- Improve your own appearance. In this way, you will emit many positive, non-verbal cues. You will look presentable and give people something to work with and not something to work against you. There is a common proverb which clearly states that "clothes make-the-man". Ensure that the clothes you are wearing are not creased and your general appearance should be presentable by above average standards. Groom yourself, groom your hair, and basically just take care of yourself.
- Praise others in some manner that will get them to like you. Praising others in a sincere, good way allows them to become more willing to agree to our requests. At the same time, do not become too false or unrealistic in your praises. Not all people are likely to fall for your comments, especially if this sounds unrealistic or unbelievable.
- Start first with a small request. Once this has been granted, you may now proceed to the request you decided on initially. This approach works well with some people. Once someone has said "yes" to a small request, they are more likely to say yes to a subsequent and larger request.
- Use the "playing hard to get" technique. This is frequently used in the area of romance. This technique stimulates interest and works on the other persons insecurities. Knowing that you are in competition will make the other act and react quickly.
- Try placing a deadline on your request. This will include activities or a sale perhaps, that will end at a certain date and thereafter the situation will be different. Prices will increase, the offer is no longer available, etc. Knowing that one has to act within a specified period of time encourages a person to react promptly.
Tips
- In most cases, being pleasant really does help the situation.
- While trying to get people to agree to your requests, maintain and have respect for yourself and for others in this process.
- Be gentle in your approach. An ordering or dictatorial attitude will not achieve the desired outcomes.
- Try creating a reliable and trustworthy reputation. People like reliability and dealing with someone they can trust.
