Get Good at Guitar As Fast As Possible

Hello, fellow guitar players of the world! If you want to learn how to play great guitar in the least amount of time possible, you must understand that guitar playing is a craft, and is admired by people around the world. It demonstrates talent, the ladies love it, and it makes you look cool. Let us start with the basics.

Steps

  1. Patience. Patience seems to be one of the hardest concepts for new players to understand. Many people think that if they practice consistently for the first two weeks they will be able to play like Slash of Guns and Roses. Understand that guitar playing takes time and effort! Without the desire or drive to really play the instrument you will never be more than the guy who pops the guitar out when chicks are around, plays "Smoke On The Water," then puts it away.
  2. Basics. The most important thing you must do is remember the basics. The little things that you learn when you start playing--basic chords, rhythm, strum patterns--you should drill into your head until you have them down pat. You can't learn the blues scale in five minutes then try playing a Romeo style guitar solo. You may be anxious, but remember the first step--Having patience goes a long way. If you are willing to take the time to master the basics, then you will eventually reach greatness.
  3. Choose a Professional Level Guitar Yeah, who doesn't love Eruption? I mean, I know we all wish we could play that note for note, but it doesn't mean we can. That's what makes guitar playing amazing, the fact that it is a skill. Most younger players can't wait to play that kind of solo, but understand that you must learn to walk before you can run. After you've mastered the basics, you have to play on your level. Overambitious players tend to get frustrated and burn out quickly. Guitar playing is a process that involves using the skills you have learned and slowly building on them.
  4. Love what you do! Playing guitar is just like anything else in life, to be successful, you have to love what you do. You must be motivated so you can appreciate what you have learned and continue to grow. If you love guitar, you will put the time in to play, and you will become great at it.

Tips

  • Once you get the proper technique down, start learning scales. The major and minor pentatonic scales are important, considering almost every major rock song has a solo based on one of these. However, different scales add a different sound and dimension to your playing, so try to learn as many as you can!
  • Don't practice what you can do, practice what you can't. While occasionally practicing what you already know is good to keep your skills sharp, practicing things that you find challenging is a much better utilization of your time on the guitar.
  • You might even want to look into getting a guitar teacher to help you get up to speed even faster.
  • Don't forget: Proper practice makes perfect!

Warnings

  • Your fingers will hurt and might even bleed sometimes. Blisters will form—understand that your fingers need calluses for you to play properly.
  • Do not expect to get better if you leave any of these steps out.
