Get Rid of Java Update Notifications

"Java Update Notification" is a start up program - ie one that runs automatically when your system boots up. This kind of program utilizes a surprisingly large portion of primary memory, causing your system to slow down. Java also persistently gives you irritating and disruptive notifications. You can get rid of this by following these steps.

Steps

  1. Open start up menu (press windows key), if using XP then run the 'Run' command and type "msconfig", hit enter.
  2. A pop up window will open with several tabs on it like "General", "Boot", "Services", "Startup" and "Tools". Click on the "Startup" tab.
  3. You can find a list of start up programs placed in each row separately. There is a check box on right end of each row. Scroll down the list to find the program named "Java(TM) Platform SE Auto updater 2 0" under the column name "Start up Items".
  4. Uncheck the check box if it is already checked.
  5. That's all. Click on "Apply" and then "OK". Close the pop up window.

Tips

  • The less number of programs you select, the faster would be your computer at Start up after booting.
    • You can find a number of programs there under the "Start up" . You can click "disable All" or "Enable All" or can select a number of programs to run at start up.

Warnings

    • There areĀ  a number of services listed under the "Services" tab of the pop up window. Do not try to change anything there otherwise you will result in problems with Windows start up.
