Steps
- Buy wax bait from a home improvement store in 12 or 36 bar bags.
- Buy peanut butter.
- Put the peanut butter on the wax bait to attract the rats
- Put the wax bait around the edges of your property.
- If the rats are roof rats, put the wax bait in the attic.
- Do this before spring because that is when small rats usually move on to look for new homes.
Tips
- You can also chop up one of the wax baits with a knife and mix it with the peanut butter. This works faster because a few of the rats will eat only the peanut butter.
- Seal off all crawl spaces with wire mesh to keep the rats from making a nest in the walls of your home.
Warnings
- Wax bait will kill hamsters, pet mice, kittens, baby dogs and small rabbits that have small intestines but will NOT hurt adult cats and dogs or children. If your dog or cat eats one, just give them milk to neutralize the effect of the wax bait.
