  1. Choose an accredited school. Choosing an accredited Texas real estate school is vital to you future real estate career. It ensures that you receive a quality real estate education, one that adequately prepares you to succeed in the real estate field. Do your research and select the Texas real estate school that best suits your needs.
  2. Get education. The state of Texas requires 180 hours of education to get a Texas real estate license. If you have taken some college-level courses, you might be able to apply your courses toward your Texas real estate training. Some schools offer different packages to meet your Texas real estate education needs. You can enroll in a 150, 180 or 210-hour package.

  3. Consider completing your Texas real estate education online. It is the quickest, most convenient way to fulfill your course requirements. You can set the pace of your education and study when and where you choose. Enroll in an online Texas real estate school and take the first step toward your new career.
  4. Submit your certificates of completion for your Texas Real Estate School Courses to the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). You will receive an email 7-14 days after submission that will notify you that you can complete the state exam and fingerprinting. You'll now need to complete the required Texas real estate courses set forth by the Texas Real Estate Commission.
  5. Prepare for the Texas real estate license exam. As important as it is to complete your coursework, you must also prepare for the license exam. Try to make sure you pass the first time. Choose a school that offers effective exam preparation.
  6. Find a broker. After passing the state exam you will be a licensed real estate agent in the state of Texas. You will be on inactive status until you find a broker.
