Get a Boyfriend or Girlfriend in the Sims 4

The Sims 4 is the fourth game in the Sims series and is a virtual version of real life. The main goal of the game is to keep your Sim happy and fulfill their personal life goal. One way to make your Sim happy is to find a partner. If your Sim is single and you think they deserve someone special then this is the article for you!

Steps

  1. Approach a Sim you would like to go steady with. There are tons of interesting Sims in the neighborhood. Make sure you have a Sim that has personalities that suit your Sim like:
    • Artistic
    • Athletic
    • and more!
  2. If you haven't met this Sim, click the social interaction, "Friendly Greeting" or whatever comes up. Greeting this Sim friendly (if you haven't met him or her) is going to benefit your relationship a lot more, rather than greeting them rudely. If you have a high Charisma skill level, then use a different good greeting like, "Charming Greeting" or "Loving Greet".
  3. Find what type of personalities this Sim has. Go to 'Friendly' then 'Get to Know' to find out about them.
  4. Be friendly with this Sim until you reach the Friend zone. You first start out as an Acquaintance to every Sim (that is not in your family). Simply do friendly things in the 'Friendly' option. Make sure that your Sim doesn't do the same social interaction every time or the Sim that you are trying to impress will get bored. Also, if the other Sim has a trait like, Unflirty or Snob, then you might want to become Best Friends before you move onto the next step. Also become Best Friends before doing the next step if your Sim itself has the Unflirty trait.
  5. Go to the 'Romantic' option and click on 'Ask if single' to see if the Sim is single or not (see Tips for how to get your desired sim single if he/she is already in a relationship).
  6. Once you reach the 'Friend' zone, try to do something in the 'Romantic' option to see if this Sim likes it or not. Some Sims like it and some don't. If this Sim doesn't like it, go to the 'Friend' option again and find 'Apologize'. However, sometimes 'Apologize' won't work and you will just creep the other Sim out. In this case, just do other social interactions until the Sim stops finding you creepy.
  7. Go back to the 'Friend' option and keep being Friendly until you see 'Ask To Move In' option. Then click on that and see what this Sim says. There is a good chance the Sim will say yes.
  8. If the Sim agrees, move him/her to your active household in the Move menu that will pop up. If you don't want your partner to be in your active household, skip the previous step, and this step.
  9. Go to 'Romantic' on that Sim and do something light, like 'Flirt' or 'Compliment appearance/personality'. If the sim responds well, carry on using Flirty interactions (use different interactions each time - the 'Hopeless Romantic' or 'Flirty' trait will add more options to the Romantic menu).
  10. Once, in the top left hand corner, the bubble says '[Sims name] thinks that [Sims name] is being extremely irresistible', there should be an interaction under 'Flirty' saying 'Confess attraction'. Click this. The relationship will hopefully change from 'Friend' or 'Best friend' to 'Romantic interest'.
  11. Use a few more romantic interactions. Wait until 'Propose going steady' appears.
  12. Click on that and then you have a boyfriend or girlfriend!

Tips

  • If you have increased the relationship, there will be an option to propose marriage. Click this to propose to the chosen sim - if it goes well then you will be engaged and can arrange a wedding party or a private wedding to exchange rings and get married.
  • Chat and figure out what this Sim likes and dislikes. If this Sim has the 'Good Sense of Humor' trait, then do things on the Funny Section when you are acquaintance. This will increase the bar faster. If this Sim has the Trait 'No sense of Humor', then doing something in the Funny Section will barely increase the friendship bar.
  • If you feel that you need to break up, go to 'Mean' and then press 'Break Up'. This can help to fulfill the lifetime wish 'Heartbreaker'.
  • Find a Sim with the Great Kisser trait. It gives you another happy moodlet which relates to a good kiss. Try to avoid Sims who have the trait 'Unflirty' because their romantic options are very limited and they often reject your sim's romantic advances.
  • If this Sim you want is already married/in a relationship, you can switch to that Sim's household through Edit Town mode. Find the spouse if he/she lives in a different house, invite them over, and break up with them. Switch back to your normal household and invite the sim you want over, who should now be single. Alternatively, you can still play as your Sim - if you reached Romantic Interest already, do some more Romantic things and then simply find 'Ask to Break Up with -Sims Name-' in the Friendly or Romantic actions. A notification should appear in the corner saying something like 'You know what, you're right. Things between me and -Sims Name- are over.' The future spouse will have an Ex-Wife/Husband and the Sim you will be playing will have a new enemy.
  • If you began this late in the day, the sim will most likely go home during the night, or if it's in the day they may go to work instead. However, you can invite them over any time. Try to get the relationship up to 'Friends' - friends are more likely to accept and come over. But remember - never call any sim from around 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, or they will automatically decline the offer.
  • Some mods can be downloaded that have the option to set a relationship between two sims (e.g. Friends, Enemies, Wife/Husband, FiancĂ©, Girlfriend/Boyfriend, etc), which save the bother of doing it normally.

Warnings

  • Being romantic too soon will probably creep the other sim out and they may reject more of your actions, which can be difficult to recover from (unless you have a high level of charisma).
  • SOME MODS CAN HARM OR COMPLETELY CORRUPT YOUR GAME. Most mods also require an entirely new version to be downloaded every time the game is patched which can be annoying to have to do. Always download mods from a safe, well-known site, like 'nraas' (http://nraas.wikispaces.com/). Others can be found online.
