Get to Chinatown in Chicago Using Public Transportation

If you are touring in Chicago without a car but you want to visit Chinatown, you can use public transportation to help you get there.

Steps

  1. Find a CTA Blue Line train stop. Look online at the CTA website. If you cannot find a train stop easily, download the app RideChicago on your phone, and tap "Nearby".
    • If you have no phone, you can ask for directions.
  2. Get on the train headed toward O'Hare Airport. When the announcer of the train says "Transfer to red," and get off at only at red, get off and transfer to red.
  3. Get off the train at Cermak/Chinatown.
  4. Repeat to get back to your hotel or wherever you are staying.

Tips

  • When you get to the train stop, ask the employee how to get your Ventra card, if you don't know how. You will have to put five dollars on your card. Keep this card, for you will need it each time you catch public transportation. It can be reloaded as much times as you want.

Warnings

  • Only get off at red. Do not get off at the other colors (green, pink, purple or orange).
