Hail a Horse Drawn Carriage

Do you live in (or have visited) a city that has horse-drawn carriages available to be ridden? Find out how to hail one by reading and following the directions in this article.

Steps

  1. Locate the area of the city that the horses tend to conglomerate in, which is the location the carriage will board from. Some cities have gotten too cheap or deemed these horse carriages too costly to repair, so in some cities, horse-drawn carriages no longer exist.
  2. Walk yourself up to a horse-drawn carriage, and inquire with the driver the cost of the ride and the approximate route his horses will tend to walk you to and from.
  3. Prepare yourself to board. Get your money out of the purse/pocketbook/wallet and hand the money to the driver. Most drivers want to be paid upfront before you board.
  4. Ride the horse-drawn "sleigh" until the driver says that your ride has concluded or has signaled that your ride has ended.

Tips

  • Understand that hailing a horse-drawn carriage is no different from hailing a taxicab in most cities.

Warnings

  • Don't just yell "Horsey" when you see a horse-drawn carriage walking on the street, and see if the driver will act in some special way. The horse might get spooked. If the horse is stopped at the boarding place (you can never tell where this place is, unless the horse stays in the same location for more than 10 or so minutes), you'll know that you can do this.

Things You'll Need

  • Locations of horse drawn carriages
  • Money (very few horse drawn carriage drivers take credit cards, so cash is always advised)
