Steps
- Know what kind of hair you would like to have. Rock star's hair always made a statement.
- Realize that a rock star's never straightened their hair or tried to style it to whatever was in fashion. They weren't hair conformists.
- Stop straightening your hair and make sure you have a classic, timeless cut. Don't have an 'emo' cut or style because that is considered mainstream and that will flow out of fashion. Also, those types of cuts are very common. Go with something that is longish and if you have a fringe, don't make it over the top. You don't want to look like a wanker.
- Wear your hair naturally, try not to blow dry it too much. At first you may feel uncomfortable if you ordinarily straighten your hair, but you will grow to love it. I know this because I have done this myself.
- Try to curl your hair. Many rock stars had long curly hair which would drape down their back. Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin had naturally curly hair whilst Jimmy Page (also of Led Zeppelin) curled his hair. His natural hair was kind of wavy with volume. Perhaps you could try to curl your hair too; it looks awesome and it gives you spunk.
- If you want a grungy hair style, like Kurt Cobain, don't wash your hair too often. It adds a greasy/grunge look that is very cool.
- Add lots of layers for Keith Richard type hair
Tips
- Look at pictures of rock stars for inspiration.
- Add hairspray or tease the roots of your hair for extra volume.
- Don't have more than one color in your hair. Your hair color must be only one color. Tips or anything like that don't fit in with the rock 'n roll style.
- Don't fret about split ends, who cares about them? Don't be all fussy about them and if it really does bother you, cut it yourself.
- You don't have to have long hair for the look, but long hair certainly helps.
- Don't straighten your hair unless you are going for a Dee Dee Ramone look or something similar.
- Don't have a cut or style that stereotypes you to anything except rock 'n roll.
- Clean you hair with good shampoo.
Warnings
- Don't be a hair conformist or you will screw up your style
- Don't damage your hair
- Mick Jagger and Keith Richards used to give each other hair cuts. You can do this for an edgy look, just make sure it doesn't look dodgy.
