Impress Your Friends on a BMX Bike

BMX is a sport full of opportunity, timing, and sick tricks! Find out how to make your friends wow in awe.

Steps

  1. J-hop/Bunny-hop/Bronco-Jumping high on a bike onto or over things (higher than curbs) is a good way to impress friends. Start by learning how to pull up the front end as high as you can. Then learn how to pull the rear as high as you can without using the brakes or flipping over. Now crouch down, pull up and lean back, then point your toes down and push forward and lean forward (not too far) while bringing the rear up. First try you may get {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} or nothing. Keep practicing until you can jump to your desired height.
  2. Manual- This is the modern version of the wheelie. It is almost the same, but it is harder and requires no pedaling. Pull up then lean back and keep your knees fairly bent. When you are about to drop the front, lean back and straighten your legs and bend your arms. When you are about to flip, push with your arms and bend your knees enough so you don't end your manual but you keep going comfortably. When you want to end your manual either lean forward or pull the front end even further up then straighten your back and legs, then push forward to j-hop out of your manual.
  3. Foot-jam - Go at about walking pace and take your front foot off the pedal and jam it in between your tire and forks. At the same time, lean forward (not too much) and "scoop" the back end (in a similar way to a bunny-hop or nose manual). This should bring your back end up. Hold this until you lose balance then lean back, return your foot to the pedal and fakie out.
  4. Foot-jam whip - Again, travel at a walking pace and take your front foot over your frame and do a foot-jam in the same way but at the other side of your frame. Then, as your back is lifting up, kick your frame/cracks (or whatever you want) with your back foot. This should start the tailwhip off so now just tilt your bars to keep it moving. You can either put your back foot on the other side of your wheel to your jamming foot or you can stick it out in the air for balance, just don't put it on the floor. When your frame is coming back around, put yourself back on the pedals and you ride (or fakie) away.

Tips

  • Highly recommend getting comfortable with each 1 of these tricks before performing them in combos.
  • These two can be combined to make you look pro with variations of each trick
  • Try-Hop onto a long ledge and land in a manual then at the end j-hop off and to add style whip out the back end, turn the bars, look backwards, or take one hand off. (whip, tweak, look-back, and 1hander)

Warnings

  • BMX is a very dangerous sport. Wearing a helmet at all times is a very good idea. Though if you are like me and can't be bothered with helmet and pads, ride with a group of friends that know your parent's phone numbers and 911. Also riding with an adult rider is not only safe and a good idea, if they are really good it may add to the 'impressed' factor.
