Information System Management Program

A student wrote to me: “I would like to know about the Information Systems Management program taught in U.S. university and at your school. Could you send me the entire course curriculum for the Bachelor degree in Information Systems Management? Thanks.

Answer: Program at each university may vary a little, but they all follow a standard guideline for quality and consistency. The Information System Management program consists of ten core courses (Required for all students) and five elective courses where students can select courses based on their interest. The program content usually gets updated every two to three years based on the technology trends and industry needs.

Following is the current Information Systems Management program for 2016 – 2018:

Core Courses (Require for all IS students)

  • IS 101 – Foundations of Information Systems
  • IS 102- Data and Information Management
  • CS 101 – Introduction to Programming (Java programming)
  • IS 201 – Information Technology Infrastructure
  • IS 202 – The Internet and Web development
  • IS 205- Systems Analysis and Design
  • IS 215 – Database Management
  • IS 302 -Enterprise Architecture
  • IS 310 – Project Management
  • IS 307 -IS Strategy, Management, and Acquisition
  • IS 401 – Cloud Computing
  • IS 402 – Computing Security & Cybersecurity
  • IS 410 – Capstone Project

Elective Courses (Select 5 courses among seven)

  • IS 220 – Application Development
  • IS 225 – Business Process Management
  • IS 320 – Enterprise Systems
  • IS 330 Introduction to Human-Computer Interaction
  • IS 350 – IT Audit and Controls
  • IS 415 – IS Innovation and New Technologies
  • IS 440 IT Security and Risk Management

The designated course number such as IS 101, IS 201, IS 401 indicates the course student must take for the first year, the second year to the fourth year.
