Steps
Preparation
- Understand that exhale screaming is not the same as inhale screaming. They are completely different and it's important to not to confuse the two.
- Drink a small amount of water before attempting to inhale scream.
Performing the Inhale Scream
- Experiment with your voice. The aim is to inhale air very deeply while making a grudge-like sound.
- Breathe out as much air as you can. Do this until your throat feels slightly strained.
- Breathe in. When you begin your scream, breathe in air and your diaphragm should flex. This step shouldn't cause any sort of growl or croaky sound.
- Breathe in more harshly. To get that croaky sound, the vibrations should come from the very top of your throat.
- Growl. Once you have mastered these steps, to perfect the inhale scream, make the growl sound were you will feel the vibrations at the top of your throat, then breath as much air as needed for the length of the scream.
- Add pig squeals. To do the high pitch inhales such as pig squeals. Let as much air out as possible and tighten your vocals to pull air in, but not too hard.
- When you are doing it to start off, try saying boi and bree. That should get you started on high pitch inhales.
- Try high screams. Once you have a lot of experience, try to manage to reach the really high screams the same as how Exhale Screams sound like! There are few steps on mastering this technique:
- As you do death growls, try to make the straining part go higher
- As you heighten your pitch, you may have to suck in more air. Otherwise, it might sound really croaky.
- Practice this special technique by doing death growls to high scream, such as do re mi.
- Keep practicing and figuring out your own sound. Practice doing this for a few weeks and experiment, going from high to low.
Tips
- When first learning practice in short time periods often.
- Don't worry if it doesn't work straight away, after a while there shouldn't be any strain to your vocal chords.
- Some bands that inhale are: Enter Shakari (Lead Vocalist), Near Ruin (Bassist), Winds Of Plague (Lead Vocalist), See You Next Tuesday (Lead Vocalist).
- Some people cannot scream, inwards or outwards. Some vocal chords will not allow this. This does not mean that you stop trying, but it is definitely something to consider is a possibility.
Warnings
- If inhale screams are practiced incorrectly or the wrong part of your vocal arrangement is used then there is a possibility of damage to your vocals.
