Install a New Video Card in Your HP Pavilion 6630
On HP Pavilion 6630s, you cannot disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS setup. But here's another way.
Steps
- Log on in safe mode, whilst your computer is booting up press F8 repeatedly, you should get a listing of boot options, select Safe Mode.
- Once you are in safe mode and logged on as the administrator, right click on My Computer, then select properties.
- Once in properties, select the Hardware tab.
- Click on the Device Manager button.
- Click on the + sign by your display adapters.
- Right click on the onboard graphics controller, and select disable, not install. This will only cause a world of misery and woe.
- Log off and turn your computer off.
- Crack her open, and install your new graphics card.
- Plug everything back up, and close up the case, turn your computer back on.
- Once you log in it should say "I found new hardware, gimme a disk,".
Tips
- Unplug everything, especially the main plug to the PSU (Power supply unit).
- If you live in the UK or have a rocker switch, leave your computer plugged in but the rocker switch off-It will keep the computer grounded.
- Use a grounding wire, you don't want to fry anything now...
