Keep Yourself Occupied in an Airplane
If you're stuck in your seat on a long, boring, and monotonous plane trip and looking for something to do, then you can plan ahead for some of the things listed in this article. Unless you plan on sleeping or looking out the window the whole flight, it is highly recommended that you plan ahead using this article so that you aren't bored on your next airplane ride.
Steps
- Bring a charged electronic game. Your Nintendo DS, PSP, Game Boy, or any other portable gaming console can provide hours of fun on a very long plane trip.
- Bring a book, magazine, or graphic novel to read. Books don't require charging and can keep you occupied for the long flight.
- Draw. Bring a sketch pad or notebook and some pencils. Expressing your creativity is a good way to keep yourself occupied over long periods of time!
- If you have an iPod or a portable electronic music player, bring it. Listening to music will keep you entertained on the flight.
- Bring a portable board game or some playing cards. If you are traveling with family or friends or just random strangers, games are a good way to have fun in a boring situation. They can provide hours of fun and can be used over and over again.
- If you are flying over land, feel free to take a camera along to photograph the scenery out of your window.
- Bring your laptop computer with a charger. Some airlines such as AirTran, Southwest and American offer WiFi on every flight, and some airlines may have laptop charging stations.
- Know how long your plane is flying. When is take off? When is it time to land? Food schedules and sleeping time. You need to know these things before the flight. Or you're going to be confused.
- Safety comes first. Read the safety rules and manual. Always listen to the announcement and have a seat belt on when the light flashes.
- Pretend. Use your imagination and pretend you're on a private jet, or in a submarine underwater. It can be loads of fun!
- Imagine. Look outside and watch the beautiful clouds flow by, Make shapes in the sky.
- Write. Write about your trip on the plane, Write a song on the plane (eg. It's so hot here, I fear, that i forgot something but that's just a thing when you're on a plane and this plane is lame).
- If you have a TV. Watch the entertainment system, listen to the national music in the country you're in. Play some games.
- Don't look at the map. It will make time go by slowly, so try to avoid looking at the built in map.
- Talk to the person beside you. They might have an interesting reason they're on the plane, They might compliment you, or even go to the same place as you for the same reason!
- Sleep. Don't sleep the night before so you feel extra tired for the flight ahead. Sleeping makes time go by faster!
- Daydream. Totally blackout and daydream about meeting the loved ones back at the airport.
- Jokes. Come up with a joke and tell it to the person beside you.
- Eat. Once the food comes, eat. In case the food is bad, pack your own snacks, just make sure the food is solid..
Tips
- Bring gum to chew so your ears don't get plugged.
- Charge your electronics up before you leave for the airport.
- For younger kids, bring a stuffed animal or toy and make a game with your brother or sister if you have one.
- Listen to music.
- If you get bored always bring a book or magazine to read.
- Make a journal/scrapbook for your holiday on the airplane.
- Have a backup plan in case anything that requires a charger runs out of juice.
- Bring a neck pillow so you can fall asleep.
- If you don't like to use the restroom in the plane use the one in the airport before you leave.
- Update your music playlist a day or two before the plane ride.
Warnings
- If you're talking to the person next to you and they don't seem to really want to talk, respect their wishes and stop talking. If they have headphones on and/or reading a book, leave them alone.
- Don't bring anything along that would be viewed as a security threat by airport security, airline staff or other passengers.
- Don't bring any liquids or sharp objects, if you want some water, get it at the little stores once you have passed the security. It's a good idea to get some water or juice while you're waiting for your flight.
