Learn Lyrics
You are in the car listening to your favorite radio channel, and right after one of your favorite songs end, some catchy tune is starting up. After hearing it out, you do your best to memorize the song title and author when the announcer says it. When you get home, you hook up your iPod and buy it! Yay, another good song on your playlist! But wait...you don't know the lyrics!

Steps
Starting with the Chorus
- Let me make it clear that you don't have to have the song at hand when you are trying to learn the lyrics. True, it may be helpful in some cases, but if you don't own the CD or an iPod, no worries.
- Whenever the song is playing, whether you are listening to it or it just came on, immediately close your eyes. Note every single word as the singer says them. Don't ponder over anything that you didn't quite catch, but stay focused, if you don't understand it the first time don't worry next time its on focus on what you missed.
- Try to memorize the chorus, because that isn't all-that hard. Sing it to yourself whenever you're bored so it sticks in your mind. If you are trying to learn the song to fit in with your friends, then once you have the chorus down, its smooth sailing. No one really cares all that much if you don't know the verses, its nice to know and share songs with your friends.
- After you have the chorus down, start focusing on the song's intro-verse. Whenever the song appears on the radio, and your friends just jump right in, don't feel pressured. If you get the intro-verse down, then when it comes on you'll be able to sing the first lines with everyone else. Plus if you can do that, they automatically assume you know the entire song (thus they stop listening so critically). After that its smooth sailing
- The bridge is probably the best way to convince your friends you know the song. If you can sing the chorus, they know you've heard the song before. If you can sing the intro-verse, they know you've probably listened to it a lot. But once you know the bridge, they're as good as sold on the fact that you know the song. Do the same thing you did with the chorus here. Pick out the words with care and sing it to yourself as often as necessary.
- Relax. Now you have nearly three quarters of the song down. Nobody really cares about the stuff in-between choruses. However, if you are a real go-getter, just listening to the song will aid you in learning the verses.
Writing Down the Lyrics
- Get rid of anything that might interrupt your concentration, such as a TV or a pet or just lock yourself in a quiet place.
- Find a comfortable place, such as your favorite couch or lay down on your bed.
- Close your eyes and listen to the lyrics closely, try to understand it by yourself, and try to understand what the song is about. Even if you're not sure about certain words keep on listening. ( this step helps a lot, but is not necessary)
- After listening to the song for one time, find the lyrics on a lyrics-site such as www.songmeanings.net and print them out.
- Listen to the song again, but this time read the lyrics while your listening to them. Make sure to check on the words you weren't sure about
- If you're lazy, keep using this strategy and listen to the song while reading it as often as you need until you know the lyrics, but if you want a more successful strategy, keep on reading.
- After listening about 3 times while reading the song, Shut off the music. Now sing the song by yourself while reading the lyrics, even if you can't sing very well.
- To memorize it even better, try writing down the song by yourself (this is for very ambitious people.)
- Now, listen to the song again and try singing along without the lyrics. You should be able to do it by now. Congratulations!
- However, if you still don't know it, keep listening to the song for as long as you need to be completely sure and know it by heart.
Studying the Lyrics with the Song
- Open your favorite search engine. (i.e Google.com yahoo.com)
- Type "lyrics band-name song-name" .
- Survey the results and find the right version. If you don`t find the correct version, the first time try a few other versions.
- Print the lyrics you found and listen to the song to see if the words match your version.
- Study the lyrics until you have memorized it word for word.
Tips
- A song cannot be memorized in a single sitting, and you must accept and embrace that fact. As long as you stay motivated and positive, the lyrics will come to you easier.
- Online lyrics sites are there for a reason. If you think it will personally speed up the memorizing process for you, read the lyrics as you listen to the song. Many people get songs down easier if they do this.
- Don't be ashamed to ask a close friend who loves the song for help. They can correct you if you misinterpreted the lyrics at all. Also, turn to your friend in the school band if you can't tell the difference between a verse and a bridge.
- Practice makes perfect. Try to challenge yourself to sing the song perfectly and have that nutty friend we talked about earlier call you out.
- Try lip-synching the words while the song is playing.
Warnings
- if it is a rap or hip hop song, then it is a lot harder. So you'll have to spend some more time.
- Don't proclaim that you know a song by heart the first time you make it through without error. You'll be able to fool many people, yes, but not everyone!
