Look Like Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly is one of the most admired women in the world. Even today, she is upheld as a standard of beauty, grace, and style. Her talent and persona influenced the great motion picture director Alfred Hitchcock so strongly that he attempted to make other actresses into her image, without success. The rare beauty and stunning self-possession that propelled Grace Kelly into the Hollywood pantheon, onto the Best-Dressed List, and ultimately to Monaco’s royal palace were more than captivating—they were completely genuine. She was a white-gloved ingenue, elegant goddess, passionate and frankly sexual— romantic.

Steps

Hair

Quite simply, your best bet would be to bring a picture of Grace Kelly (see on left) to your hairdresser, and let her sort it out for you. After this, however, you will need to learn how to style it yourself. Before starting, you should have a golden blonde bob - blunt, slightly graduated and shoulder length.

  1. Wet your hair and then blow dry it until it is about 90% dry.
  2. Apply Velcro rollers to your hair so that every piece is being curled.
  3. Leave your hair in the rollers for as long as possible, but at least until it is completely dry (do not use your hairdryer to dry your hair once it is in the curlers).
  4. Take them out, and lightly brush your hair to give you looser curls.
  5. Spray Lacquer or another hairspray in your hair.

Makeup

  1. Apply a liquid foundation in the lightest shade possible for your skin.
  2. Take an eyebrow pencil (matching the colour of your own brows), and fill your eyebrows in whilst subtly adding length to the ends. The finished product should have a high and arched shape.
  3. Line your top and bottom lashes with a dark eyeliner.
  4. Choose a warm, neutral eyeshadow colour and sweep it over your lids.
  5. Apply two coats of black mascara to your top lashes.
  6. Grab a light brown or peach blush. Suck in your cheeks. Apply the blush in a sweep starting from the side of your nostril and ending at the outside of your lower eyelid.
  7. Apply a thick layer of red, matte lipstick. Lip liner is optional.
  8. Blot gently with tissue paper.

Body

  1. Eat a healthy diet
  2. Get in shape

Clothes

  1. Wear soft pastel colors. If the occasion requires something darker, a rich navy is preferable.
  2. Stock your wardrobe with white gloves, high waisted pants, pencil skirts, off-the-shoulder and spaghetti-strapped dresses, and Kelley bags (named after her!)
  3. Take a look at designs by Edith Head and Helen Rose for more inspiration, as these were her favorite designers.

Jewelry

  1. Choose real or fake diamond and pearl necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.

Scent

  1. Use perfume. Fleurissimo was Grace's favorite (Prince Rainier specially commissioned it to be made as a wedding present for her).

Tips

  • Wear light make-up and pull your hair up off your face.
  • Show off your shoulders when possible.
  • Try applying some hair polish - it will both protect against frizz and retain shine.
  • Visit www.creed.com to find her perfume.
  • Put on as much jewelry as you like - don't worry about overdoing it.

Warnings

  • The hairstyle given may have suited Grace Kelly, but that doesn't mean it will suit you. It will work best with long faces and oval faces.
  • Do not starve yourself to get skinny.
  • Don't try wearing a fur or faux fur stole, as Grace, unlike many stars of her eras, didn't like them. If you want coverage, wear a scarf or a sheer wrap.
