Make Curtains from Bed Sheets

Flat bed sheets provide an ample amount of fabric. If you have a whole bunch of sets lying around, why not do something with them? To make curtains from bed sheets, it takes minimal sewing, too!

Steps

  1. Understand the measurements. Gathered curtains are usually 1.5 to 2.0 times wider than a window. Most windows require two twin sheets. Twin sheets are 66" x 96". Full sheets are 66" x 102". Queen sheets are 90" x 102". King sheets are 108" x 102".
  2. Gather your sheets and sewing supplies.
  3. Using a seam ripper, open "just" the side seams of the hem at the top of each sheet. Most hems are about 4 inches wide.
  4. Measure the width of your curtain rod. Add width plus a 1/4 inch for movement within a rod pocket.
  5. Make a rod pocket. Make a straight horizontal stitch above the hemline of the sheet, accommodating for the width of the curtain rod. The remaining fabric at the top of the sheet will become the ruffle.
  6. Iron the sheets.
  7. Slide the rods into the pockets and hang your curtains.
