Make Decorative Candles for Christmas
Christmas candles make an amazing addition to your decorations, as they are functional are stylish. Nice to look at and nice to smell, scented Christmas candles can help set the festive spirit over the holidays.
Steps
- The first step in making interesting Christmas Make Candles is making chips. Melt the wax in a double boiler.
- Add a color to the wax. When the temperature reaches about 150 degrees, add the scent if applicable.
- Pour the wax into a shallow tray until it is about 1/8" thick. Wait for it to cool, and be careful when touching it.
- Remove the wax from the tray when it is completely cooled. Set it aside for now.
- Repeat these steps until you have several trays of this ready.
- We're going to use the trays of wax to make thin chips. Use a (preferably older) pizza cutter to form a grid of rectangles on the trays of varying size. You shouldn't press to hard and the ridges don't need to be that deep.
- Use the ridges to help you snap the wax into small chips.
- Fill your glass candle holder (you can also use a Christmas mug if you want) or votive mold with the chips. You'll need to place the wick in first, and be careful that it stays centered while you add chips.
- Melt some more clear wax, and then pour it slowly over the chips.
- Let cool, and then remove them from the molds, if applicable
Tips
- These make terrific gifts, too!
- Add the scent to the melted wax just before you pour the wax. Cutting the scent into small slivers will help it dissolve faster.
- Alternatively, you can just pour a layer of wax in a votive mold or glass candle holder, let it set, and repeat.
- Choose Holiday scents. The red, green, and white candles made in this wiki are scented mistletoe, white birch, and vanilla, respectively.
Warnings
- Be careful when dealing with hot wax.
