Make Fake Rocks With Roof Sealant

Making fake rocks with roof sealant is perfect for anyone who wants to decorate his garden with some rocks without having to do all of the heavy lifting, or for anyone who just wants to make some fake rocks just for fun. The best part is, once you're done making the rocks, you can even paint them to add a personalized touch to your new creation.

Steps

  1. Purchase foam roof sealant (in a tube).
  2. Spray the foam into a circle on cardboard or poster board. Keep the size that you want.
  3. Start filling the circle in with the foam, then work the foam upward, to build a mound-like lump.
  4. Let it dry.
  5. Paint your rocks. Purchase brown, black, and white paint, then sponge it onto your rock(s) using a sea sponge, found in arts and craft stores.
  6. You can also paint the rocks using a series of layers of paint or by using an airbrush to apply subtle colors or shading. When using spray bottles you will need to water down the paints to make sure that they will spray evenly. Repeat multiple layers of paint using this process and finish the final layer with a light misting of black to have incredibly real looking stones
  7. Finished.

Tips

  • If you plan on keeping these rocks for a long time, get some spray sealer/varnish, and give it a couple of coats.
  • Foam dries fairly quickly.
  • When making rocks with foam, don't worry about imperfections, no rock is perfect.
  • Sponging is easy. Pour some paint onto a paper plate, dip your sponge into the colors you're using, dab off excess onto paper towel, then sponge it onto the surface.
  • Let the layers of sprayed paint dry in between layers to create a deep and realistic looking color pattern that resembles real granite
  • Throw them at windows on April fools.

Warnings

  • When using the foam, make sure children and pets are out of the way. Read the manufacturer's instructions. This foam is extremely toxic. There is no respirator that can protect you from the isomers that are created as it dries. It is also extremely hazardous when it burns.
