Make Fresh Mango Juice

Summer is one of the only times when one can enjoy the true ecstasy of fresh mango juice. Usually bottled mango juices and drinks have a kind of uniform taste and flavor. But you can make fresh mango juice at home with different types of mangoes, and enjoy different flavors in mango juice.

Ingredients

Blender mango juice:
Serves 4

  • 2 ripe mangoes
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • A few ice cubes

Pressed mango juice:

  • At least 2 mangoes
  • 1/2 liter water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Steps

Blender mango juice

  1. Wash the mangoes to remove any dirt. Then peel the ripe mangoes.
  2. Cut the peeled mangoes into small pieces.
  3. Put them in a blender together with crushed ice, water, and sugar.
  4. Blend until smooth.
  5. Run the blended mixture through a sieve.
  6. Throw away the leftover pulp and mango fibers.
  7. Serve the juice in glasses with a piece of mango attached to the side for garnish.

Hand pressed mango juice

  1. Collect a few ripe, flawless mangoes from your own mango garden or buy some from a fruit market. Try to use mango of same species.
  2. Use at least take two mangoes for making juice for the family. Wash the outside of selected mangoes.
  3. Take two middle sized bowls. Use one for putting the pulp of mangoes into, and the other one for the removed skin off the mangoes.
  4. Peel the skin off the mangoes, putting the skins into the selected bowl. Place the flesh or pulp of the mangoes into the other bowl. Then press the mango pulp with your clean hand, to separate the juice from the flesh.
  5. Soften the pulp with your hands or spoons in a bowl. Pour in 1/2 a liter of water to help liquify the pulp. Then use 2 tablespoons of sugar to sweeten it. Stir the mango juice until it tastes sweet (check whether the sugar grains have dissolved).
  6. Pour the juice into glasses, keeping the pulp out. Serve the juice in glasses in cool environment. Alternatively, preserve it in a pitcher kept in the refrigerator.

Tips

  • Mangoes that offer a nice aroma and a strong flavor are good for blending.
  • Don't be stingy with mangoes, but remember, the more mangoes, the more water.
  • There are many varieties of mangoes. Blend mangoes with smaller, thinner fibers for ease of drinking.
  • Add water as needed but do not add a large amount of water, as juice will be too diluted and the juice will lose much of its flavor and taste.
