Make Hot Chocolate Sauce
Thick and gooey, hot chocolate sauce is the best complement to any kind of ice cream. It's also great on churros, fresh fruit and berries. There are lots of delicious forms of hot chocolate sauce––choose one of these recipes and you'll be well on your way to making a delicious treat.

Ingredients
Golden syrup hot chocolate sauce:
- 250g (8oz) dark chocolate
- 2/3 cup cream
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- 40g butter
Honey hot chocolate sauce:
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup pouring cream
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 200g dark chocolate
Spicy hot chocolate sauce:
- 100ml red wine or red grape juice
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 2 star anise
- 1 tablespoon caster/superfine sugar
- 5 tablespoons double cream
- 100g dark chocolate, good quality
Churros hot chocolate sauce:
- 100g dark chocolate
- 50ml cream
Steps
Golden syrup hot chocolate sauce
This sauce can be kept in the fridge for up to a week.
- Chop the chocolate roughly.
- Place the chocolate, cream, golden syrup and butter into a medium pan.
- Stir over a low heat until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth.
- Serve on top of ice cream straight away.
- Finished.
Honey hot chocolate sauce
- Pour the milk and cream into a small, heavy-based saucepan. Add the honey.
- Warm over a low heat. Stir constantly to combine.
- Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
- Pour the melted chocolate into the cream and milk mixture.
- Mix well. Stir enough to combine.
- Serve immediately.
Spicy hot chocolate sauce
- Chop the chocolate roughly.
- Pour the wine into a small, heavy-based saucepan. Add the cinnamon stick, star anise and sugar.
- Bring to the boil. Reduce and simmer. When it has reduced a little, remove the cinnamon stick and star anise.
- Pour the cream into the mixture. Slowly return to the boil and add in the chopped chocolate. Stir constantly.
- Remove the sauce when it turns smooth and all of the chocolate pieces have melted.
- Serve immediately. If you need to keep it warm, keep covered.
Churros hot chocolate sauce
- Chop the chocolate roughly.
- Pour the cream into a heavy based small saucepan. Add the chopped chocolate.
- Heat gently. Stir constantly to combine.
- Remove from the heat when smooth and combined.
- Serve immediately. Dip your churros in or spread over the biscuits.
Tips
- If you're using hot chocolate sauce after it has been in the fridge, then reheat gently over low heat, stirring.
- Hot chocolate sauce is great for pouring over ice cream, fresh fruit, fresh berries, pudding and more.
