Steps
- Be prepared to set aside 1 to 2 years of your life to achieve your goal.
- Come in clean. Don't smoke weed or do any illegal substances before you enter the program. Though they do have a grace period if you come in while doing those sorts of things, it is still not advisable. The grace period to sober up is only about a month or so.
- Be culturally aware. There are many different races at Job Corps, along with many religions and backgrounds.
- Find a group of people that can support you through difficult times. You should also find a hobby you can engage in by yourself. Bring a deck of cards, a book, a notebook to write or draw in, or anything that you enjoy. You should also join an onsite group, or make one yourself.
- Focus on your goals. Do what you came there to do. If you stay focused and remain driven, you can do anything you set your mind to. Don't let difficult times get you down.
- Achieve your goals. Make the most of your time there, and make this experience a good one. Once you achieve your goals, you'll have a positive time to look back and reflect on.
Tips
- Don't let anyone get to you.
- Save your bi-weekly allowance.
- If your center allows you to qualify for camp crew, try it out. It gives good money, and can be very helpful when you graduate.
- If your center has a culinary program, make friends with those students! They tend to be friendly, and love feedback on the treats they bake.
Warnings
- Fights and other incidents happen often - try to not get involved!
- Try to avoid entering a relationship. It can cause a lot of drama and heartache.
