Make Sugar Cookie Dough for Children

Here's an easy sugar cookie dough which is easy enough for children to make. This is the perfect cookie dough for Christmas cut-out cookies.

Makes approximately 100 cookies.

Ingredients

  • 1¼ cup soft butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ cup milk

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350-375℉ (175-190℃).
  2. Add the butter and sugar to a mixing bowl and cream well.
  3. Add the eggs and beat until fluffy.
  4. Whisk together the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  5. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk.
    • Add more flour, if the dough is sticky. The dough should remain soft but be easy to handle.
  6. Roll cookie dough out ¼" (½ cm) thick on a well-floured pastry cloth.
  7. Bake the cookies for 8 minutes on ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Frost and decorate the cookies as desired.



Tips

  • Decorate cookies; pull narrow, brightly colored ribbons through holes in cookies; tie to tree.
    • To make Christmas tree cookie decorations, roll out and cut out the cookie dough. Insert paper straws, cut into 1" (2.5cm) pieces, into the top of each cut-out cookie. Bake as directed. Remove the straws while the cookies are still warm. Decorate the cookies and then insert brightly colored ribbons into the holes. Tie the cookies onto the tree branches.
