Make Yard Sale Signs

If you want to have a successful yard sale, you need catchy and legible flyers or signs which are easy to see from a distance. There is no point in taking the time to make signs which will not be readable, or which will not stay attached where you place it.

Steps

  1. Use some bright, eye-catching poster board of a size large enough to be visible and readable from a distance and/or moving vehicle.
  2. Write YARD SALE in big capital letters using a wide black marker, or craft paint.
  3. Give a "When." Be sure to list the time and dates that your yard sale will be starting and ending.
  4. Give a "Where." Write the address of the sale and make sure the address is readable and stands out. Larger print or bold or contrasting marker color will accomplish this.
  5. Give a "What." Give no more than one or two examples, if any, of the items that you are selling. Remember, people are driving by and may not be able to read the information.
  6. Install posters securely, in such a way that they will not fall over or droop. Place them on corners of busy streets (intersections), or where there's a lot of traffic near your home.

Tips

  • If you're making signs to post in several locations, make them all in the same style. Your potential customers will know exactly where to go based on your signage.
  • Make sure that people are able to read your address as they drive by - best to check this by actually driving by your sign.
  • Be sure to take down the signs after the sale!
  • Try to make your words big, so they catch the eye!
  • Typing the signs and printing them out will make them bolder, easier to read, and faster to make. Plus, they will all look the same.

Warnings

  • Be a responsible seller. Take all your signs down immediately after the sale.
  • Make sure your handwriting is legible so people can read it easily.
